Thanks for the link to the split conduit @colb ; just ordered 5m; have some underbonnet wires that could do with some added protection as 25 years old now.

Split conduit is rather good at protecting wiring, have also used it to protect the hard line brake pipes that emerge into the rear n/s wheel arch on my Z4. Where they are they get blasted by the wheels and can corrode, mine cleaned up and were then painted with some smoothright paint then when dry some lengths of the split conduit put over them to add even better protection.

Battery voltage looks suspect to me, may well cause issues and set codes, check out the state of your battery.

Battery needed a charge before I got it, it had been sitting for a while. That may be the issue! Wish i’d picked up on that sooner! Should it be over 13?

Around 13.8V at a fast idle. At the rate shown (9.49) I would say there is a cell down on the battery.

That might have been when off, the next one when running wasn’t much higher though.

so if battery low, even when running, not enough power getting to the sensors. Then they work poorly or intermittently as a result, thereby not sending consistent info to the ECU. That in turn makes the ecu make poor decisions.Codes reflect faulty sensor and car behaves like it has a faulty sensor since it functions similar to one?

A good battery, even at standing still should show almost 13V, same at Idle. Fast idle should kick it up to around 13.8 under load ie lights, heater blower, wipers etc. on.

Ordered new battery. Will charge the old one and keep it spare.

Once you have the new battery run the car and put a volt meter on the battery posts and see what the alternator is charging it at. You should see circa 14volts if its charging ok.

Have put new battery in! Car performing much better! Aaaand the cos sensory fault has dissappeared. There is still one fault, “ control of map cooling’ which is registering as a ‘short against ground’. While running as you can see in the picture, inpa read out says battery voltage 14.08. Look better to you? It does to me! Right, so I need to dig out the voltage meter, and try to remember how to use it! I feel another you tube moment coming on! Actually can’t upload the picture, says it’s too large! Funny didn’t say that the other day!
