Yeah, the impeller is plastic and pressed onto the metal shaft. The plastic eventually cracks and the impeller stops turning. So it goes from running perfectly to a very fast overheat and potentially a headgasket failure. The very epitome of "a stitch in time". There's plenty of help and info on here about doing the job.
I thought it was just the six cylinder engines that had the water pump with the self destructing plastic impeller? Is this a job to add to our list?

I think it's pretty well across the board, all models are due a pump if not for the impeller issue then bearing failure and another sort of catastrophe. I'm a fine one to talk though, I've had a new one on the shelf for over a year now :oops: Already 1st on the list for the New Year when it warms up a bit.

And here is me thinking that I’m the only one, who takes a while to sort any jobs out that need doing. =))

Hi, what size spacers did you use? and does it have an effect on drive?
