We're talking about the old money here Jim. In the days of Pounds,Shillings and Pence. This was before 1971 which is when we converted to Pounds and Pence. The coins used to have names, like American Dimes & Nickels (even now):D

Did Shelly mean that she was cleaning room 101 Mike?=))

Tony.

No don't know what your talking about :)
I've done my time in that room ;)
Never to go back again =))

I'm sooooo confused and it's not all from the drugs!!! JIM

It's a English thing @oldcarman ;)
No need for you to worry :)
It was all confusing in 1971 ;)
We're all used to it now =))
The money that is :)

That's because you're trying to understand the ramblings of a bunch of old f**ts reminiscing about the old days...=))=))

We're not old @Mint ;)
Just reminiscing out loud :)

That's a point, not many of the new coins have ever been treated to nicknames. The only one we use is at the pub when playing darts for fun we usually throw in a dustbin lid, not a quid as you might think, but a 50p piece.

Trying to blame someone else @Mint :)

Oh god bless you Gail! I feel your pain honestly. We only have the one thank the Lord! :)

We got both our twins through their final year at Uni last year and it hardly cost us a penny (or a shilling, or a bob, or a tanner) . Student Loans, etc, paid back as and when they earn over a certain amount and they both had evening and weekend jobs to fund the rest of 'Student life'.

We made the crazy mistake of funding the first year out of our pockets before realising that Student Loans are the ONLY sensible way.

Fortunately they're both earning enough now to be paying a small percentage back which is more than acceptable in the scheme of things.

You've obviously got your heads screwed on the right way and have two sensible kids Col. Good on you.

Tony.

Mine has his student loan but that barely covers his accommodation costs. Even once he got a job we still had to contribute.

Oh you'll have been through the lovely task of filling in those very intrusive forms then..........they're fun.....not!!

It would be wrong of me to suggest we didn't help out - we did but I do believe it's vital they should work in the evenings and/or weekends, it's character building and gives them a chance to understand the value of money.

I once read an interesting article from an old journalist. Within that he gave some advice about what is the best thing you can do for your kids. His reply "Give them what they need to be able to do what they want in life, but not so much that they can do nothing".

You'll find the secret to success under the alarm clock!!
