The thread about 'cars you wish you still had' got me thinking about makes I have never had, but would like to try. While I have owned many brands of car and driven a whole lot more, I have never owned or even driven a Mercedes.
Now, I keep looking at (mostly AMG) used Mercs and wondering whether I should indulge.

I mean I haven't had Astons or Lamborghinis or Ferraris etc either, but these are a bit out of my sphere. Mercedes is one of the few 'mainstream' makes I haven't experienced. Does anyone else have a brand they would like to try, but as yet haven't got round to?

Yes. Porsche. In my youth I really wanted one of the 911's with the fat rear wheel arches and the picnic table rear spoiler. But, as an older guy, maybe a boxter for the top down experience. Now. if you twisted my arm. I'd go for a Cayenne SUV.

Anything else? Don't think so. No. Hang on. Aston Martin Vanquish . . . and then I woke up.

Oh yes indeed, they were always top of my list and I was lucky enough to get a trip out in one every now and again as my next door neighbour owned one.

Only driven a couple of Mercs many years ago in Gerrmany, an older stacked headlight model and a newer big saloon, can't remember what exact models they were but they were big barges. Always fancied a SL but happy to stick with the Z3 and Z4 I ended up with.

Sad as it may sound I wanted a z3 from the moment it appeared in Golden eye.still haven't got the Golden eye spec one.

I’ve been luckily enough to drive most exotic brands in my job and some very limited cars.
Merc SL AMG65 is ridiculously fast, Ferraris are ok and draw loads of attention, Astons exude quality, but two stand out for me.
porsche 911 carrera 4 and Lamborghini murcielago.
Porsche drove and handled beautifully and nothing seemed to concern it.
lambo was loud, brash and in your face, a true drivers car.
sadly I never owned or kept many for more that a day or two.
oh, not forgetting a Renault Clio V6 with mid mounted engine. That was fun too 😁

Strangely I have never been a Porsche fan, I think it's either the soap bar shape or the sheer number you see, and while supercar marques are appealing in theory, the running costs and liabilities would put me off. So apart from maybe an AMG Merc drop top, I think i am more or less out of that group.
