.net back on line

I agree .org is fresher and more updated, and was a bit surprised to see so many on .net last night. I quickly went back to .org and was the only one on. :ar! I wont be sending any money to .net after the way we were ignored :-t

i agree mate :)

The points Malc (Mouldy) has made are valid. I don't see why .org needs to close down and I'm sure it will continue and develop.

As far as .net is concerned, Tim holds ALL the keys, the decisions are his.
As a Mod on .net I see my role not only to monitor the posts for bad language, abuse etc but also to act on requests/concerns from members. All the comments raised have not fallen on deaf ears.

My personal thoughts are that .org and .net will continue to grow alongside each other to the benefit of the Zed community.

I don't think it necessary to choose one or the other.

let's not be too quick to cast aside the good work done by zroadster.net because the site may look old and dated ;)

I think therein lies the answer to this whole argument.

"the good work done" and "old and dated".

Clearly any "good work" in recent years was not by the forum owner, but more so the members, in regular posting of information, help, and even socialising. OK Tim has given us the forum to do that, and that is a big thing to be thankful for.
However, those members with that level of interest and information are now here, and we also already see a difference in the look of the site, because of the site owners. And at no cost... donations evidently were not required for a new look!!
Even with years of donations, updates have never materialised with .net
Even in Tim's '12' posts he talks about improvements to justify these requests. I appreciate he has set this up and it is his baby, but I would have preferred to know that these were token donations, rather than requested on the premise of improvement.

If I can 'improve' one thing with a donation, I would prefer to try and do that for MND sufferers.

To make it clear, Tim has made more than 12 posts, his username was hacked so he had to start again ;)

The thing i have noticed is that yes Tim has posted saying he is sorry for the length of time .net site was down and in the same breath asking for donations towards the up keep. Yet since that post, members have made posts reguarding all the issues and he has not responded with any further posts. I am sorry but that to me is out of order. Yes we all have things to do and can not get on when ever we want, but if it was someone wishing to keep things smoothed over i would be watching the reply posts like a Hawk and comming back with future plans, just so the members can see things are happening. At the moment Tim has asked for donations without giving in my eyes true reasons for them and has in my mind left members with doubt as to whether the site will continue if these donations are not received, he has not even replied to a single post both positive and negative reguarding the .net site and that to me is down right wrong. I am sorry but i feel it is time he passed the reins over to people who are enthusiastic and care about the z comunity.

Well having just logged on to .org today and seeing the new front end...................................Good Bye .net.............. L-)

Well, I have made many good friends on .net have enjoyed the site, But I think the time has come to move on, I am really dissapointed with the lack of interest shown by the site owner.

Unless something is done pretty damn quick Its .org for me, from now on. Looks and feels more up to date :ymapplause:

OK we loose the Data base, but we can get our own going on here, plenty of information available elswhere.

So long as all migrate i can not see a reason not to switch to .org. I also can not see why we can not start the knowledge base on here, like Taffzee says there is loads of information out there and we can always rewrite some of the earlier posts :-?

That's the plan. We have installed a 'wiki' module on the site. More info to follow...

For those not sure what a wiki is...

A wiki is a Web site that allows users to add and update content on the site using their own Web browser. This is made possible by Wiki software that runs on the Web server. Wikis end up being created mainly by a collaborative effort of the site visitors. A great example of a large wiki is the Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia in many languages that anyone can edit. The term "wiki" comes from the Hawaiian phrase, "wiki wiki," which means "super fast." I guess if you have thousands of users adding content to a Web site on a regular basis, the site could grow "super fast."

We're gearing the front end of the site more for a concentrated knowledge base without the banter in the middle of threads so the articles can then link to threads in the forum. that way visitors to the site might be able to find what they need quickly and then ask more questions or give feedback here.

This in turn makes it easier to extract the information in the future. we don't want a situation in 10 years time like .net has now, hopefully by then we will have a number of people who are technically willing and able to help manage the site. As more Zeds are built and produced hopefully the following will increase so that when the time comes there will be someone to hand the keys to who will treat the resource with the care we want and expect.

So if you have any knowledge to share then can we start getting it together in a form that we can add to the site so it's in one section and can be found quickly?

Thanks,
James

Just popped onto .net 4 regular users and 9 on here, says it all :)

Yeh i have read it and dont know what to make of it, no explanation or anything, apart from he is going to return donations recently made by members :-?
bill

Says it all to me if that's all he has to say on the matter looks like he's taking the cowards way out :-q to be honest I haven't been on there a lot and spent most of my time on here since the site went down! Show your support and join in with the people that care :ymhug:

Just read Tims post ,cant understand why he`s not made a statment as to the the future of .net after all the comments posted as to the running of the site.
Totally confused by his lack of response.
:ymalien:

After reading the thread my interpretation is
he seemed to have taken it very personally
He has taken a lot of stick from members recently,
but not making a statement on the net, i feel he has himself to blame.
Why has he been so aloof.
He has let it get out of control, he could have stopped the bad vibes in its tracks
By just making a statement that he was in discussion with moderators and members>

But no, total silence
