Sorry to hear.
Mine had advisory on last MOT on outer lower bottom ball joints I got them done soon after I bought it just because it had been noted.
Not expensive to buy from euro car parts but the mechanic I used was not impressed he said they were a pig to get out he said they usually change the whole arm.
Good luck

Lower ball joints seem really common and mine fails every year on emissions.

i changed the whole arm, only swapped the drivers side as this is the one that failed, passenger side is fine, this was 3 years ago now and still not had to swap the passenger side.

N/S ball joint complete arm changed 2 years ago £100 fitted, Don't fancy doing it myself.
Bit annoying re emissions, booked it in for 10am took it on a 30 minute thrash before hand only for it to be sat at the garage for another 5 hours cooling down. Not sure whether this made a difference?

yeh it usually does make a difference, changing the arm was a pain but after lots of swearing it fell out (ball joint separating folk was too narrow, was bashing for ages, then as i sat there cussing it just dropped out by itself)

I always book the 8am slot and tell them I'll be waiting. That way it's still hot when they start. Not sure what else you can do.
