Hi all,

Cracked my windscreen today and need a new one. Anyone know of a fitter near to Hinckley that can give me a price.
Been on the Autoglass site but they don't seem to give a price, Just want you to book an appointment blah blah, Who does that without knowing how much it is?

Most insurance policies cover windscreen replacement, they charge an excess but it is far less than the cost of a new screen and doesn't affect your NCB.

Autoglass are no better if you phone for a quote....I needed a screen for my Audi a couple of years ago and they wouldn't give me a price unless I was prepared to give them all my contact details.....which I wasn't.

I don't know anywhere around Hinckley but got it done near where I work in Leamington.

Yes I know dude, Don't want to use them which is why I asked as most of them are geared towards insurance only stuff..
Thanks though buddy..

I'll have a look, I can remember roughly where they were but not what they were called.

Not had a screen done in the Zed but I did get a price from Autoglass for the Freelander. It was £500 more than I got from the dealer (it was the heated screen - ouch) but sadly the dealer took too long to get back to me after I asked for the cost - I needed it done quickly. I went with the insurance but expect my premium to rise significantly for the outrageous act of claiming off them even though my NCB remains intact.
Had a screen replaced in an Audi as a condition of purchase. The dealer used Autoglass themselves. They managed to leave broken glass on the carpet - I wasn't impressed with either!

WOW, £500 more than from the dealer!!!!.

Bricking it now lol.
I couldn't believe it myself.
I have to admit that Autoglass do a good job. You don;t want some hatchet man taking to the inside of your car with a stanley knife.

new screen cost me about £220 all in with new rubbers ect, when I clamed off my insurance for the other car they put my insurance up though they said it would not and the autoglass guy scratched my car (though I did not notice at the time) so that's why I paid for it myself with the BMW :)

Cheers fella, I would not let him near my car without bodywork protectors. Just spent 25 man hours correcting the paint..
He best be wearing super soft silk overalls lol...=))

I was outside washing the Zeds while the screen was done in the LR. Can't remember the name of the guy who did it but he was a well experienced guy.

Took the Z out last Sunday for a quick spin an a stone flipped up and cracked the screen. So mine needs replacing. Need to check the insurance policy to see if it's covered. More of a work up than anything else to arrange the booking in etc.
I will do it after the new forest run out.

Russ, an interesting story but when the car was mine, I came out of work one day and the windscreen was shattered.I thought someone had tried to break in but nothing was taken. When they looked on CCTV it had spontaneously shattered in the sun! Apparently there had been several sightings of other cars in the same area doing the same thing at the same time............ it is all a bit X files/Twilight Zone but there you have it. Autoglass replaced it on my insurance. I think I had to pay about £50 excess and I was insured with Norwich Union ( as was.)

Actually happens quite often especially in dark coloured cars that are closed up completely in the heat of the day! Does make one wonder when you walk up to find a window shattered or a windscreen smashed. So crack a window to allow the heat to escape before it happens people!! JIM

Now that is an interesting story, Mine isn't though Paula.

I have the interior stripped out and was moving the mirror in a bit of a cag handed way and it cracked. Totally my fault. Had a few quotes today and it's going to cost about £230 all in so not horrendous but unexpected. Could have been spent on goodies or fuel for driving her..
