Finally located and removed the defective bulb from behind the 3 heater/vent controls.
My question is...
Is this a sealed unit and therefore I have to replace the whole thing or is the glass bit supposed to pull out? Not sure, as I cant get it to pull apart if it is supposed to!

about £8 each last time i asked.

i tried to modify some with LEDs but it was so much hassle that i gave up.

they are only available through BMW too as i've asked the manufacturer for a non branded equivalent and they dont make one

Just ordered one.
£10.70 inc.
When I queried it he said it was a special high quality bulb because it is a BMW bulb!! I reminded him that BMW do not make light bulbs, they buy them in and sell them on at rip off prices!!
I was assured that this one should also last 17 years.

Remember to write the date down when you put the bulb in your Z :p
To make sure it lasts 17 years ;)

How. Did you get them. Out.
I pair of pliars, one large box of plasters and an awful lot of profanities!
I never, ever want to go behind that panel again.!!!
If the bulb fails again it will be easier to just change the zed!

I won't bother then. It's only the one by the passenger side

Just like things working

To be fair, that is the easier of the two to change.
If you undo the two crews on the panel in the passenger footwell you can peel it back far enough to look up inside. I also pulled the radio out to shine a torch through which helped. The bulb holder just pulls out with the pliars.

Most of my interior bulbs have died so I just carry a torch in the door pocket =))

Close to giving up now......
This morning both lights are out!! I have, for the first time, managed to get both bulbs out from behind the dash and they are now hanging out of the radio aperture. Both will not light now, although one worked last night!
The bulb which was not working before suddenly came on, but not until I had ordered a rather expensive replacement. I cannot believe that both bulbs are faulty and that is where I have to stop.
I know absolutely nothing about car electrics and am worried that I will cause some serious damage if I try to do anything else.
I can only guess that I have disturbed something when moving the roof switch to the front panel.
Is there anyone out there who can help me???
Willing to pay of course!

They are quite simple to mod using a couple of cheap options

The answers are on here pal, just got back froim a very long drive and can't be assed to find them at the minute, but I have been playing with leds that have long stems that push all the way through the bulb holder, its really is a piece of cake, I copied off here
