whilst out in the zed today I stopped to get some petrol, on getting back into the car there was a strong smell of petrol I thought the breather may have been blocked how wrong was I
got home parked the car went inside thought nothing more about it until I went to move it and saw a trail of petrol on the floor and an even stronger smell of petrol. it looks like it is coming from the fuel line near the bulkhead how lucky was I that it didn't catch fire ? the drive from the petrol station to home was about 20 minutes, I think I have had a lucky escape.

Best get a container under your Zed before the petrol melts the drive. If it's tarmac.

Very, I would say. Lucky it wasn't a really hot day.

So what caused the leak, I too have had a strong smell of petrol but no signs of a leak

I have a 2002 and when I changed the fuel filter I changed the fuel pipe as they were perished and quite hard, I have brought some more to change the rest of the pipework. also the metal pipes were corroded so its not just the rubber ones you need to look at :)

not sure haven't had a chance to take it apart yet. it look like the leak is below the fuel rail.
when i had a smell in my old zed it was the breather pipe blocked.

You had a very lucky escape - and reminded us that a smell of petrol around the car needs to be checked immediately! Thank you.
and good luck getting it sorted quickly!

Well I took the I let manifold off today and the problem appears to be the fuel supply line to the fuel rail connection. Somehow or other it had come out but not completely it sure how or why but I shall order a new one a d clean everything else up.

Not quite the same problem, but I managed to splash some petrol into the rubber boot that goes around the fuel filler, is there really no drain hole there? Had a poke around but couldn't find anything, guess I'll have to look a bit deeper into it and maybe put a hole in there, so long as there's nothing underneath that's going to cause a problem. Noticed in the past when I cleaned behind the filler cap flap that the water stayed in there, should have done something then. Or just not cleaned part of the car that no-one else ever sees. Damn that OCD cleaning stuff.

is there really no drain hole there?

Hi yes there is a drain hole and pipe in the rubber boot but it is small and easily blocked, I used a piece of pipe to cover the hole and blew hard to unblock the line then lots of hot water to flush it out.

There is a small hole in the rubber beneath the filler, I use a bit of electrical wire every now an then to clear, and a squirt of WD40.

Strimmer cord is another good un-blocker if its really jammed up

I've used a a cable tie. Nothing you can't do with a cable tie :)
