As Billy Connolly said on "An Audience with Billy Connolly" New Years Eve 1985;

"I think the Queen should be saved and God's the very chap but it's boring ........... and it's racist, verse 5 is all about General Wade marching up to Scotland to give us a belt in the mouth! Oh, do you bloody think so? So, it's time for a change and I think that change should be the theme tune to the Archers" :wideyed: :wideyed:

i think this being the land of hope and glory has seen its day... Many others seem to think it is but at what cost to ourselves...

Agreed Ant but there's always hope.
 
Yeah sure there is would be nice to feel Great Britain is great again but its about time we looked after ours and this country would different place for many reasons.

Being a bit pernickety, the thread said "National Anthem of England",

Billy is Scottish so he doesn't have a say! and if some of the Scots have their way and break up the UK, Great Britain may soon be a phrase of the past.:eek:
 
I thinking if Scotland was to separate from the UK that would be a great shame but when you live far from government I can understand why you would want more local powers. We are better together.

I was sat in a boot room on a platform up north many years a go and a group of Scots were having a heated discussion about independence.

I chipped in with, in my finest East Anglian voice, "Independence?, Isn't Scotland just a county?"

It went very quiet and I left!

I voted "Land Of Hope And Glory".

I didn't choose it for the words and what they stand for, but because I think it's the best tune from the three options.

I'd love England football and rugby teams to walk out to "Ernie, the fastest milk cart in the west"

Call two ton Ted from Teddington
Who drove a bakers van


.... or it may have been an M coupe =))
