Mystery component - what is it

There is an owner on the M Coupe site has a mystery component (non OEM for sure) which he is curious to know what it is. Any assistance would be appreciated I'm sure. Link below

Any ideas anyone, the owner has the car off the road and looks like he is going to try tracing cables as it goes down the transmission tunnel.

My guess is that the cable ends somewhere in the trunk reaching the battery.
I have no idea what it does, but the gearbox tunnel is always the easy path to follow from front to rear.

Apparently he found out it is a tracker aerial.

Thanks for raising here Pete and thanks for others input, much appreciated. I think it was a DAB aerial. Strangely positioned in the airflow behind the lower grill with the cable tie wrapped to the harness behind the dash with the disconnected end pushed under the carpet along the transmission tunnel. It was perplexing. It’s now been chopped off!
