My Z4M+Alpina in a YouTube Video

In the last couple of months, I came across a small UK based car YouTube channel called "The Dream Car Show". The quality of the content was so much better than you expect from a new channel and in one of the videos, one of the two guys who are the "hosts" had an Alpina Roadster S and had done a great video on it.

I got in touch with them with an idea for a video. As fair as I am aware, there has never been a video where the Alpina and Z4MR are together and they go over the differences between the cars and highlighting the key differences and go over what things are pretty similar.

I went down to Brighton last Thursday and spent about 4.5 hours with them, letting them take their time so the video wouldn't feel rushed. The Alpina's owner took me out in his car (I declined to offer to drive it as I didn't know the roads) and seeing one up close for the first time, I realised the Alpina wheels look some much better in the flesh and was really starting to lust after one! I let the owner take my Z4MR out and he too was surprised by the impact of the small differences between the two cars.

The video should go live at 7:30pm this evening and I really hope they are able to start getting some subscriptions, as I really like their content (they have access to a lot of rare cars due to one of the guys owning a detailing business. When I went to meet them, there was a McLaren 675LT in grey sat in the corner!

While I have no desire to be a YouTuber, I do enjoy the whole process of filming, which stems from me doing an advanced media studies course in 6th form, back in the late 90's.

The Alpina Roadster S was so nice. It really sounded awesome. So different to my S54, but the Alpina's engine is based off the S50 from the E36 M3, but the exhaust Alpina used really makes it sound like an oldschool BMW M30. It has the normal Z4 twin pipe back box, yet it was still had more presence than the quad pipes my Z4MR has.

Harries Garage (Harry use to be the owner and chief editor for Evo magazine, He's got a really cool car collection. He has a Jaguar XJC Coupe that has had a manual 5 speed gearbox installed)
Superspeeders (Rob Faretti)
Best Motoring (A very famous Japanese car show, that is a video car magazine)

I tend to like car shows where they are building things, or just feel more real with the cars they cover, rather than do what Shmee150 or Supercars of London.

The Hoonigan (Ken Block's media company that produce the Gymkana films) YouTube channel has a number of channel that cover lots of really cool content and they usually have people turn up with their custom cars etc.

Its a stainless Eisemann system, sounds amazing for a twin pipe, it is one of the few endearing features though ;)

I really think the Alpina would edge over my M in a lot of real world driving situations. The grunt of that 3.4 was really impressive and when they took me out in the Alpina, I was at an loss for words at just refined it felt, when compared to the rawness my Z4MR has. I liked how the car felt really planted on those Alpina 19"s , which has me seriously considering getting a set for my M!

You will struggle to get them from Alpina (and suppilers advertising new still have to do this) as you need the Alpina cerificate, copy of the log book and believe or not a photo! before they will supply. New fronts are £600 not sure about rears and sets may be discounted. You may get some second hand sets come along but second hand can be a lottery. I have 1 front thats going to become a coffee table ;):thumbsup:
 
other good car channels on youtube I like are, the smoking tyre with matt farah, nathans garage, pawining, car throttle, living life fast, its joel he's the z4 fella thats going to vanity too, harry and franny two american women with porsche and ferrari, and harrys garage.

I been watching a great channel the last few weeks its a dutch girl going around europe, and russia on a royal enfield himalayan motorbike its great content and she been riding for a few months now all through kazakhstan russia turkey georgia.. anyway itchy boots is the channel if anyone interested..

For Alpina wheels, you don't typically need to prove you own an Alpina, as they are typically an option on all new BMW models. When I had to get replacement parts for my E30 Alpina C2, I had to get my VIN cross checked and only then would they let me get some of the Alpina parts and replacement badges. I actually would like to have the Alpina classic's on my M, but I never know what offset's I can use. One of my wheels possibly needs to be refurbished, as it's unable to keep the tyre pressure. (had the tyre checked a few times now and it's not a puncture).
 
When I saw his driving style, I'm not surprised that he went for the Alpina.

The Alpina is a choked big engine. This means the torque peak is at lower revs and makes for a much easier car to drive.

As a daily driver, I'd rather have the Alpina, but as a car for "special occasions", I'd have the M.

If you buy them from Alpina, yes you do, I have done so. If you buy a new BMW they are supplied to BMW direct, not to the owner.
