Anyone got a clue to what the likely cause of this is please? It's a 2008 fiesta. He has no mechanical knowhow but sent me these pics yesterday and says it's making a terrible scraping sound. It's right down on the drivers side front. I'm thinking colasped wheel bearing or broken/dislodged spring? He finishes at Uni next week so going to get the RAC to tow it back home so we can get it repaired.

Looks like a broken or dislodged spring to me

Broken Spring is best guess on the change in height; but what do I know I get my hands dirty only when I wash it

Thanks Martin, that was my thoughts. Only passed not a month ago so I hope it hasn't broken or maybe he's missed it which wouldn't be good.

Mot only good at time of check, bits can fail after you drive away.

There isn't a week goes by at work when we don't change at least one Fiesta front Spring Dave. I tested a Fiesta a few weeks ago and on the the way round to the tyre bay to get the tracking checked the nearside front Spring snapped, it can happen at ANY time.

Thanks mate. It had been stood 5 days, jumped in it to go shopping and it dropped within 2ft of moving off.

@Grumpy I wouldn't bother doing both, because on a 2008 car it's more than likely the other one has already been done before now.

Had the same thing happen on my Mondeo years ago, backed out my space at work, twang, lifted a tyre bay door, backed the Mondeo inside and went home in a tyre truck!

It failed last year on the other side Tony. Andy our mot guy always does his best to minimise Jacks costs with him being a student so he only did the one side.

Solution is don't buy a ford. Never had one, never had a spring fail.

I've always rated the fiesta as a small car choice. He's had no other bother with it at all and it's ideal for him cos it's so cheap to run.

I would say we get only slightly fewer broken springs on BMW cars too. . . . . . mainly rear ones!
