My old Z3 has been driven backwards

Just because I'm nosy and bored, I thought I'd see if my old Z3 got through the MOT at the end of last month.

...it seemed to have failed and then was passed. Great news!

However, what is remarkable, is that it now has less mileage than when I sold it last April......

Some times cars get younger and younger with the age...depends on what fuel you use...
I was following some sales sites for Z3 , few years ago and it was so funny to watch a black safire sold in Italy in the first week with 160 tkm, after 10 days with 130 tkm, next 10 days 110 tkm and then 98 tkm! He even don/t bother to change the pics! In Germany if you do that , you go to jail (, if you get cought).

Did you log the mileage on your V5C when you sold the car? I always do, even if the cars going to the scrapper.

Of course it could be a single honest mistake by the M.O.T. Tester and nothing more. If the mileage isn't corrected on the day it was tested then it has to go to the DVSA to be put right.

The latest M.O.T. certificate will list the previous 3-4 years mileages so I can't understand how this can go under the radar if people are vigilant.

Just checked mine, it appears that it wasn't tested for 5 years, July 2010 - August 2015

You can check the MOT history on any car by using this site

If you look at my old car W884TJU you will see that the mileage recorded at the time of last month's MOT was 131,183.

I advertised it for sale in April last year with a mileage of 135,000 miles. It sold two weeks later and bearing in mind it was my daily driver sometimes clocking up circa 700 miles a week, when the new owner picked it up it would have been at least 136,000 miles. If you are so interested, you can see a copy of the advert if you search my previous posts.

So that's a difference of at least 5,000 miles. However, that assumes that the new driver hasn't driven it at all in the following 8 months and put further mileage beyond the 136,000 miles it was sold with - which is extremely unlikely!
So long as he doesn't wind it back to more that was stated on the previous MOT in Jan 2015, no one will know...

Unless the previous owner is as nosy as me....

Slightly off-topic I know, but I had a look at my Z3s' MOT history and it's had a few advisories for "larger tyres fitted to rear". Staggered fitting (from the factory) now an advisory matter?

I have a mileage discepancy on my zed MOT's. My MOT centre accidently added 10k onto my mileage about 3 years ago and I didn't notice until 12 months later when it came around to re MOTing but they said they couldn't do anything about so I have had to live with it.

Hopefully if I ever come to part with it the new owner will be able to see what went wrong afterall who adds 10k onto a cars mileage.!
