My 21yr old topless model 2.2

Fortunately a clean sheet!

So, been suffering with little puddle developing in the little left hand side well in the boot after heavy rains since I’ve had the car. Changed the aerial grommet and has the tail light out to check the seals. Neither of those have stopped the leak. I suspect it comes in somewhere between the panels near the boot hinge. Tonight I took out the plastic grommet in the well, cleaned it up, applied some Vaseline and put it back just in case it was the weak link.

While I was under the car looking at what might need doing at some point I noticed that one of the exhaust hangers appears to be attracting the attention of some local wildlife!

High level brake light seal ?

Finally discovered where the water gets into my boot. Just need to figure out how to seal it. Last photo is not mine, just showing where the water gets in from underneath the rear wing. It must be a very small imperfection in the body sealant allowing it to be drawn in.

Wire wheel it all back and use some tiger seal and paint back over the area once dry. That’s one tricky one to detect.
I was thinking of a less thorough, but equally effective method involving a quick wipe down and hand applying a dollop of something😀. Don’t really want to take the bumper off and open up a can of worms unless I have to.

Nice. You take some great photos - we all like photos of course!

I’ve always been annoyed that unlike most Z3’s mine had no M badges anywhere. Most Z3’s, including mine originally had the M Sport steering wheel and often a gear lever with the M badge on the top.
So I’ve been collecting the parts to get it back to stock. I have the steering wheel courtesy of @spurs fan in a coupe and @Pond. Not been brave enough to swap mine over yet, but when @Muzzled offered a new gear knob I jumped at the chance to get an easier upgrade done.
Changing my gear knob over was an utter PITA. Old one was glued on and I had to nibble away at it for ages with side cutters.

Great to see it installed, really looks good and will match your M wheel perfectly. Very cruel of the previous owner to glue the old gear knob on!

Yes, it also feels so much better than the one I had. I didn’t realise how bad mine was. It looked quite good, but was entirely plastic. Standard one is bigger and heavier.
I did feel like I was one slip away from damaging the centre console. The lever itself is also really soft metal, so I did unintentionally cut into it with my side cutters. Needed to file off the rough edges before I fitted the new one.

Finally got round to having my new steering wheel fitted today while car was in for a service. I’m very happy it’s all back to stock now. M sport wheel feels slightly bigger with a thinner rim compared to the Sport wheel I had before, but I like it.
Thanks again to @Pond for the slip ring and 2 stage airbag. The garage took all of 5minutes to fit it, but not before they spent 15 minutes trying to tell me it was all wrong.
