I think it was more the wrap was put to cover poor condition paint work. It didn't look like it had been put on well and I'm not sure how long it was on.

The worst part was the bonnet where it lifted half the lacquer

Hi and welcome Richard. Shame about the damage but for £600 you can only add value to it. As your doing the prep work is it worth while getting a quote from someone local for a top coat verses the amount of plastidip rattle cans you will use and see if it’s not to bad a price for a colour you really want? At least your outer sills won’t rust, might be worth taking them and the jacking point plastics off to make sure your inners are ok.

Unfortunately the side skirts are bonded on. Otherwise they would of been removed and given away.

I've got a compressor so won't be using rattle can. Think it was £125 for 8 litres and I'm told should only need around 6.

Saying that rattle cans would work out cheaper, but finish wouldn't be as good

For that money I suppose you could get most colours of your choice, I hope you are able to achieve the results your after I can’t even manage to use a rattle can without bodying it up even after doing sound prep work. You could ask @Sean d for some tips he’s a pro sprayer well legendary sprayer.

Today was finally the day when it was time do spray it. Unfortunately I had to do it outside. Although it was warm and sunny there was a slight breeze.

Impressed with the full dip. Good coverage. Any imperfections are down to be using a cheap gun and not sorted out a garage to spray it in.

Will see what it looks like in the morning when it has fully dried.

A few extra slight digs are showing up on the Matt black which weren't so visible when it was silver.

Can't wait to start putting it back together on Saturday and actually driving it.

Thought I'd start a progress thread about my new z3.

Just wanted a cheap second car and heard good things about z3's.

I life on the west Wales costs so miles from anywhere. Found 2 cheap cars, both around 1.5hrs away.

One was a pre facelift 1.9 auto. Full red leather interior and only 80,000. It was £1000.

The other was a facelift 2.0 manual. High miles but full mot. Had a horrible wrap on it and cloth interior. Was only £600.

Because I wanted a manual, and am prone to stupid choices, I went for the 2.0.

I looked just as horrible in real life as it did in the photos I'd seen.

The money was paid and I was the proud owner of a car 'powered by fairdust' according to one of many horrible sticker.
Looks like your doing a good job on the bodywork ..what's it like underneath ? how do it run ?

Runs really well. Only done about 200 miles in it but so far so good.
Power seems to come in high in the revs so that takes a bit of getting used to. Not sure if that's a characteristic of the 6 cylinder or just my car
