Christmas is a time for family & friends and also for remembering those we have lost in life whether they be human or animal kind.

Non cat lovers probably won't get this, I know this is a car forum and I wouldn't normally post anything this personal, but this touched me and I felt I had to share.

When I got in from work this evening there was a card waiting for me, this is what was written in it -

'Dear Bryan & Sally,

You loved & cared for me all of my life, until l was frail & weak and pain kept me from my sleep. On my last day, more than the rest, your love & care stood the test. You didn't want me to suffer so, when the time was right, you let me go. You took me where my needs they'd tend and stayed with me until the end. You stroked my fur and spoke to me, until my eyes could no longer see. From pain and suffering I am free, a kindness you have done for me.

Thank you for everything,

Love from Tom xxx'

'When tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For everytime you think of me,
I'm right here inside your heart.'

that is so moving. sleep peacefully Tom.

As regards replacing a loved pet, no you can never replace their character, but if they could make a will, I am sure their wish would be that we would share that same love and care to another pet.
Never say we wont get another, they need people like us, there are too many people that don't, care or worse.

Such a sad time and a very hard thing to do Bryan, we had to do this for our Sam only a matter of months after losing our Carla. We took comfort in that they would be playing together somewhere again.

Tony.

We are huge animal lovers Bryan so totally understand where your at.
As Pete says you can never replace Tom's character but you can get another Cat and love it equally as much. When we had to have our Tammy cat put to sleep we still had our Yorkie Benny, he had always had company so after long talks we decided to get another dog and ended up with our working cocker Woody. There is always room mate.

R.I.P Tom.

Sorry for the loss Bryan, pets to those that own them are just another member of the family.Thoughts are with you.

R.I.P Tom

Thank you all for your kind comments. I can't reply to individual replies at the moment as I am at work :(.

Obviously it was Sally who penned the words, but if cats had opposable thumbs , I'm sure he would have written something similar :D. He was a true dignified gentleman, almost human at times.

Its the little things that I will miss, such as when coming home from work he recognised the car engine coming up the street and would be out of the house and waiting at the gate for you to turn in. He would then get in the car for the short journey to the house while giving head butts and dribbling! He loved sleeping on the Zed roof , but was clever enough to know to keep his claws retracted when jumping up there . He loved prawns, he would sit in the kitchen, look at you, turn his head towards the fridge door and back again several times until you gave in :wideyed:. I will even miss him waking me up at some ungodly hour for food, usually by making a bed on my neck & dribbling in my ear, or tapping my face with his paw, then progressing to the eyes and then the mouth until you either got up or pushed him off the bed :ymdevil:. Most un-cat like of all, he loved going out in wild weather, wind rain or snow :nailbiting:, we nicknamed him Lieutenant Dan (from Forrest Gump).

We still have our other cat Meg for company, she is wondering where he has gone, but I think she knows!

sounds like Tom was a real character. Sorry for your loss Brian.
The one and only time I ever saw my dad cry was when I was a teenager and we had to have our cat put to sleep, strange thing was, he didn't even like the cat. Just shows how they play on our minds.

So sorry to hear you lost your cat ........
Especially at this time of year ....
Take care to all of your family

I am feeling for you. I would be devastated if anything happened to our rescue cat Dippy.
They really do become members of the family but we all know we will have to say goodbye at some point. That of course does not make it any easier.
It is true what they say... Dogs have masters and cats have staff! Dippy harks back to the days when the Egyptians treated cats as Gods, but I woukd not change her for the world.
Rest in peace Tom.

Thank you for all the lovely comments and stories of your own little friends. It truly warms the heart.

Merry Christmas to all our fellow Zedders and we hope to see you soon for another year of Zed fun.
