My garage still attracts small rodents though - including a bl..dy grey squirrel.

I find my .22 takes care of Rats and Mice very well. I have an agreement with my neighbour too. I shoot the rats that get into he chicken runs and get a good old fashioned cake out of it. Works very well. Nothing like a little pile of seed in front of a breeze block hidden behind the shrubs for a back stop. I find it more humane that leaving out poisons.

I used to have chickens and had the same issue with rats, I put up a dim outside light about 20m from my dining room window, I used to bait them with breakfast cerial soaked in milk so they had to sit and lap rather then carry it off, I used to feed them every night for a week or two without shooting them, that way they get very confident, after that out with the AA s410 carbine and goodbye rats

OK guys I've just put my H&S hat on after reading this. I know your all sensible folks BUT just in case you haven't heard of this
Rats continuously urinate and can spread Leptospirosis (Weils decease) in their urine, and it ain't nice.
If your cleaning up your cars (or anywhere else) after rats;

1. ALWAYS Wear gloves (preferably the rubber disposable types) if not throw the gloves away, straight away
2. ALWAYS wash your hands (even if you wear gloves)
3 Dont do this if you have any cuts or grazes on your hands
4 Disinfect the area the rats have been eating/sleeping in
5 Don't have a cup of tea while your doing it or smoke (hand to mouth)
6 DONT let your kids anywhere near the area.

I would also use a decent disinfectant too such as a solution of Jeys Fluid. As the household cleaners are not designed to take on such bugs as its not an everyday thing they would come across. Yes Jeys does smell strong, but its a clean smell. Can I put my Environmental Health Pollution hat away now @Nodzed
