I never like taking my cars for the mot, my z3 is a 1997,and i drive it every day, so the last few weekends ive been giving my car some tlc , i could find nothing wrong thankfully apart from the windscreen had a big chip in the a zone, anyway got the screen sorted and went for the test, result, passed with no advisories , and after spending some time underneath my car i am still well impressed with the condition it is in

Good job m8 I know the sleepless nights leading up to the MOT!, mine just passed with 2 advisories :( one the fuel pipes are slightly corroded and so is the steering pipes, I do intend on making new ones myself though as I always prefer a permanent solution as opposed to the steel they use :)

That's excellent news :p
Another year of happy Z motoring :)

I do get a sense of dread when it comes to the mot, I remember well taking a triumph dolomite for its test and the mot man condemned it on the corrosion! I felt good tho when my z3 passed, I do tend to try and keep brake pipes and such coated in grease

The MOT that came with my car was probably issued by a mate of a mate as I can't see how it could have possibly passed:(

Careful with the steering pipe. If it is the high pressure one that goes from the pump to the rack this is very hard to make yourself. I tried to have one made by a proper company but they couldn't replicate the fixing that goes into the pump.

2nd that about the power steering pipes, they will leak if not a perfect fit.

makes you wonder how some mots are done, my last z3 came with an advisory on the mot, slight leak on front shock, it was completely knackered, I would sooner have my car fail its test if something serious is wrong.

My front two tyres were bald, with 300 miles extra on the clock from the MOT mileage. Two of my brake calipers were seized and the handbrake didn't work on one wheel as the mechanism was completely unattached. The lack of ABS and ASC weren't a problem though as they had removed the warning bulbs:eek:. The rear drop links were totally shot, but I'm not sure if they are an MOT fail.

WooKee that sounds a well dodgy mot, did your car even get looked at, beggars belief !!! I see you have an m43, I had one of those, very underrated in my opinion, I had lot of fun with it and I did a lot of miles only issues were front shocks and an oil leak where the filter housing mounts on the engine, both easy to fix. a good friend has it now and he loves it

Mine was very unloved and I had the oil filter housing leak (along with one from the rocker cover) but it does make me laugh when I drive it. Especially now that most things are sorted:D

that's great, a sense of achievement when you get things sorted, the joy lol of old and often unloved vehicles saved from the scrap heap, and it stops us getting bored

Not had a good look at it yet for size ect but from looking at the diagram I'm pretty sure the rusty one that goes along the rack is on the low pressure side that goes to the cooler then the reservoir, I will make a separate post closer to the time as I need to do several pipes at the same time like the fuel one that was another advisory on the MOT :)

Good news on the mot pass
Do you mind me asking what mot station you use as I live just a few miles from you :).

Tony.

Anyway, talking of M.O.T.'s when I got to work today the 8 o'clock test slot was vacant, so I asked if I could test my car as it was due by the 23rd of the month anyway. So off I went and did it.
