Sorry not zed related but can I ask our two resident mot gurus a question?
Tony or Steve please help and answer me this?
My daughter has a Honda Civic but recently clipped the near side wing mirror
Leaving the glass cracked. The mirror is still fully functional moves in all directions
But is cracked.
The mot is due shortly leaving the question ...will it pass or does this mean a fail.
A full wing mirror is quite expensive and coming up a Christmas and all do we need
To replace it?
Thanks in anticipation
Brian

Don’t know the answer brian but being a tad superstitious you need to remove the broken mirror and bury it under an oak tree!!!

As long as the interior mirror is intact and fully functional, along with the Offside door mirror then the nearside mirror does not have to be tested.
A vehicle has to have1, the offside mirror and 2, either the interior mirror OR the nearside mirror.

https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/class3457/Section-3-Visibility.html

This section in the manual used to be called "Driver's View" now for some reason it is called "Visibility" ????

@brilie , a cheap fix would be a "stick-on" replacement glass from an Auto parts supplier. OR eBay. Probably only around £12 or so mate.

Since Tony got there 1st I will just add a little bit .
If the glass is damaged but still provides substantially a view to the rear it's pass and advise but as said I would probably get a replacement stick on mirror and stick it over the damaged one if the housing is all intact and you stick it on straight you'll barely notice the difference.

My offside mirror fell off :p
I stuck the new one on with sticky tabs and it's fine and you can't tell the difference :)

Just one thing about sticking a mirror on. If they’re heated (most are) does the heat stand a chance of causing the glue to become soft and the mirror dropping off?
Contemplating using high temperature glue/sealant (previously used to replace the glass door on an oven) to replace a door mirror.

I would hope if they sell a mirror to stick on something ,it would stick!!!
But in today’s world :wideyed::wideyed::wideyed::banghead:
Thanks for the thought

They are supplied with adhesive that is designed to do the job. Never had one come adrift. Did lose oan oruginal BMW one last winter though.

My thoughts are cheap will mean cheap components. Can you see some Far East slave shop being worried about whether or not the glue will last beyond the day it’s first used?
Me neither....
If you use some decent 3M pads you’ve got a fighting chance.

Never had one come off so that speaks volumes to me . . . . . .
At circa £12 certainly less expensive than a new mirror at anywhere near £120 upwards but for a piece of mirrored glass and a sheet of adhesive not particularly cheap.
