Hi All,

So unfortunately the Z3 failed MOT at the weekend on brake hoses at the front being deteriorated, not surprising for a 23yr old car.

Just wanted to delve into the experience within the group of what costs would be involved approx. (not at BMW dealer) and any preferences on make of hoses in the group?

Overall I'm pretty pleased that it's the only thing that needs a mechanic for, the other failure was a tyre (Z is getting new boots for the summer anyway)!

Looking forward to getting your advice,

Thanks

If its the flexible rubber hoses that have been failed then you have the option to replace with rubber standard hoses sourced from the online car parts sites or upgrade to stainless braided hoses from suppliers on ebay. Going stainless will be at a higher cost but they will outlast the life of the car. If the hoses have been the fail on the MOT what are the hard lines like if they are showing signs of corrossion maybe they should be replaced whilst you are sorting the flex hoses.

Post a picture of your failure sheet so we’re sure what it is that’s failed.

Tony.

Repair immediately (major defects):
  • Nearside Front Brake hose excessively deteriorated (1.1.12 (b) (ii))
  • Offside Front Brake hose excessively deteriorated (1.1.12 (b) (ii))
The front pipes are listed as advisories:
Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material @ flexi joint
So as suggested will by @colb do those at same time.

Your first post was what confused me saying the front hoses were corroded. ;)

Tony

If you are going to replace the hard lines take a look at the How to thread @t-tony put together as a guide

Just replaced front rubber hoses on mine to get through an MOT (along with all flexis and hard lines, front and back)

The front rubbers were about nine quid each, TRW (BMW OEM) jobbies from C3BMW. Very pleased with them, look much better than what I took off.
