I've got some front shocks on a Z4 to fit next Saturday afternoon.

I must admit to have avoided any jobs that involve breaking into the hydraulics after an experience with my son's Z4M Coupé. We replaced the standard hoses with braided ones and were flushing the old fluid through to fill it with Racing Blue DOT 5.1. Getting fluid through the system was painfully slow even with a pressure bleeder, and it transpired that a computer hook-up was needed to open various valves in the ABS/DSC system. As my Z3 has the same system (or similar) I don't want to have to have the car trailered to a garage for bleeding. Is this a problem throughout the various iterations of the Z3, or is it purely the late ones with the DSC system?

I've got DSC on mine, and changed all the flexi hoses over the last couple of years, no trouble bleeding them with a normal Gunson pressure bleeder. Maybe the Z4 is just a bit too clever for it's own good, seems that the newer a car is the more complicated things can be. Keeps the dealers busy, I suppose.
Heard somewhere that the newer X5s need hooking up to a computer so you can change the rear pads, don't know how true it is but sounds entirely possible. Wasn't like that when I were a lad mutter grumble etc
I can get the fluid in my Z4 with no issues last year.

Thanks Nefyn Cat, I have had a local indy renew the fluid but I want to do it again this year. I'll start modestly and progress on to a full flush.
Aforementioned son has an Audi RS4 B7 too and that is really computerised with it's active suspension. What I love about my humble old Westfield is its old world charm. No power steering, no driver aids, no fuel injection, no brake servo... It's even got a real throttle cable!

The Z is taxed!
Got the MOT done with @Stevo7682 today and just popped the tax on. Going out for a celebratory spin this evening. I've missed the little Z. The drive there and back reminded me how fun these little cars are and thanks to Stephen, the car is back on the road.
As ever, theres a bit of list of things to get done but for the most part it looks like the majority of the niggles have been rubbed out. I think from here, i will be looking at dealing with rust and worn bits around the corners to smarten things up. Going to be mostly time spent on it endevouring to bring it up to a standard.
There might even be some hood renovo restoring in the next month or so and maybe even some rejuvinating of the interior after a bit of moving and shaking in the z3 market.

Great news. Presumably replacing the leaking hoses reduced the CO level? What did the emission levels end up as?
