Just had a email from a company that I have used for spares !!!

It states:
Your MOT from May 2018 will change. These changes are as a result under the EU Roadworthiness Package which aims to standardize testing and improve road safety. These changes relate to failures for major and minor faults, in addition diesel cars getting a much more stringent emissions check.
There are now categories of faults as
Dangerous, Fail
Major. Fail
Minor Pass

I am all for having safe cars on the road, and have no issues with MOT,s and personally would want to know if any car I was driving had any problems,

BUT.....

If we are leaving the EU......why should these apply to us???? :)

It gets over the situation I had recently , Z3 passed MoT but one advisory was classed as dangerous.

Do they now include the driver then?? =))

How can an advisory be classed as dangerous. If its dangerous its not roadworthy?

If we are leaving the EU......why should these apply to us????

And when we do leave the EU we will have to apply the same rules as they have or our cars won't be allowed to be driven on their roads.

Most EU laws will be incorporated into ours just along with the various European Standards they will just have British Standard on them

Depends what it was if the advisory was for a non testable item it could be dangerous .
The training one they used to use was a centre propshaft bearing on a rear drive transit severely worn not testable but still dangerous and advisory would be issued accordingly

I have had a good read over the draft copy of the new manual now . most of it still the same ( bit of re-wording) a few additions but on the whole a fair bit of it still the same

Valves in wheels, were perished --yet about 2 years old

I have commented on this before on here .
A badly deteriorated valve stem is a fail obviously without seeing it cant comment but common sense would dictate that if someone issued a dangerous to drive against a testable item then surely it must be in such a condition that it would be a fail .
This is what the mot manual says

My old Toyota Corolla failed on All 4 valves showing signs of deteriation. I took it to the National tyres in Bognor ( although it was the Nottingham branch that had fitted the 4 new tyres and valves about a year before) and they were really good. I showed them the receipt and they agreed there was a problem with them and swapped all 4 at no charge.
Took it back to the MOT station and it passed.
