I just wonder what will become of the now redundant trig points now we have all the new gps systems. They bring back a few memories

Take my hat off to you Hugh could never manage that :scorecard:

Some great pictures.
Picture 3 you wouldn't want to fall off there once you started tumbling you wouldn't stop o_O:eek::eek:

What a view! You mate has the same bike as me. the Turbo Levo, awesome bit of kit.

I don't think GPS is accurate enough to give you an exact 'pin' point. It's basically accurate to within a meter or two.

And if we took away the trig points then they'd have to reduce the height, on the map, of all our mountains by about 4 feet.

Although no I don't think they would. I put a rock on top of the trig point on scafell pike and kept looking at the online maps for a few weeks afterwards and the height never got updated. People just don't have any pride in their work nowadays.

The trig points are considered to be accurate to around 20m over the full extent of the UK but the individual points are with a Centimeter or so of the adjacent points.

Interesting thread, got me looking at the Specialized concept store here in Bristol, wow, the carbon turbo sets you back almost the price of an M !

I really wish I was fit enough to do those mountain tracks………I wouldn’t actually do it….but I just wish I was that fit again   =))

I'd struggle to get up there on a motorbike never mind a pushbike

Get a reasonable bike and a easily led mate it’s surprising how you can gain fitness back without having to ride mountain tracks. Covid , health problems and a few other life events got me in a bit of a slump but getting back on the bike this summer has really helped. I’m 62 and I’ve become a fair weather rider but I’ve lost almost a stone and feel so much better. Cycling is so good for you as it’s mostly low impact if you don’t fall off and you can get to some amazing places. I can ride on my own but having a mate that is at least as stupid or even a little more of an idiot than you helps an awful lot. My buddy is 20 years younger and works for a living so I go when he can but don’t miss an opportunity sometimes they’re the last one you get. My advice for a fitter body and a clearer head 3 simple tricks
1 find a stupid mate
2 convince him to get a bike
3 get comfortable in Lycra

I couldn't agree more. You don't have to go nuts, but MTB is so much fun you'll probably want to do more and more. I'm not a pleasant sight in lycra either so I wear some baggies over the top!
Here's a gratuitous picture of my current rig on a club ride on Dartmoor.😎😍
