That road at 60 looks a hoot. At 40 it's looking a bit tedious. I would do the limit, obvs, but starting to look tedious. With average speed checks as well, hard pass. I want to concentrate on the road, not my speedo dial.

Everyone knows speed is a contributor to accidents - less time to react and all that. Instead of generic statements it would be nice to instead see specific stats: how many speed related accidents/fatalities on that road when the limit was 60 / 40 / cameras installed.

I can improve the accident rate on all roads in a single stroke: make the limit 10 mph on all roads including motorways. But thats not really the point of motorised transport is it . . .

Driven it countless times, in the summer unless you get there near to sunrise you wont even be averaging 30mph regardless of average speed cameras due to the camper vans and Corsa's, to be honest its far to busy to be a good driving road, and in the winter its treacherous so good luck trying to beat the cameras, but its a nice spot to bimble along with the roof down though.

The first section from Llangadog about 7 miles, is nothing like the picture featured and the twisty bits are a little over 3 miles long before you get to Brynamman. Its more a great visual treat than a driving experience as the views are stunning. Speed cameras will be more of an eyesore than a nuisance .

They are AVERAGE speed cameras ;) . You just need to know the start point, the end point and the average speed time between the two. It's really useful to have a pace maker who does the correct speed so the others can enjoy the scenery :ymdevil: .

I recall having lots of fun on the A9 :racecar:. The guy with the caravan was wondering why I would pull over after each camera, then be on his tail by the next one.

Depends on the type of system, some do start to end point - many work in pairs which makes it much harder to enjoy the road

an interesting article detailing how they work - there are many similar articles about on the net, all saying the same.

If there are five cameras A-B-C-D-E, I always assume that A is linked to B, B to C, C to D and D to E. As long as you are below the average for each of the sections, you cannot be over the average for any section.

If they are linked, and you exceed the average for each pair, will you get 4+ speeding taxes or does a computer have some intelligence built in so you only get one 😂.

no as its on the same stretch of road you can argue its the same offence

I am losing count of the sets of average speed cameras in North Wales.
This is just part of the Welsh Assembly hatred of private people using cars.
This weekend up here in North Wales we had the police close the A5 ( this is Thomas Telford's London - Holyhead road) to tow away cars parked inconsiderably , but the "park and ride" were full and the folk that spent over one hour waiting for space then had to wait 60/90 minutes for the half hourly bus service.( they were full before reaching car parks) I just feel sorry for businesses trying to make a living.
