More Bad Luck

Well it's back just picked it up service, air valve breather, exhaust Cat.
Drives really well very smooth to what it was, down to air valve breather.
The shocker was another bill Over £400 :eek:

You are heading in the right direction though it hurts to part with over £400. Did the garage check the battery drain issue?
 
No battery drain check obviously been used a bit so all good touch wood not been left for more than 3 days at moment.
The list I put up came out as advisory section rather than in the urgent attention section so will get dealt with in future as money dictates.
Obviously will buy a drive belt to throw in the boot in case .might get front drop links .
But need to recoup funds as it had over a grand this year.
Soon be the best mechanical one out there the BMW Specialist are very meticulous they said the engine is strong sound perfect.
Also they said no fault codes which is virtually unheard of ever on a newer car let alone almost 20 yrs.
Fingers crossed.

Hi Tracy, you can buy a cheap electrical tester for about ten pounds to try and find your battery drain.

I'm sure we can help on here with how to use it.

Disconnect your negative battery terminal and set the tester in between on the correct setting.

Then take out fuses one by one and see when the reading changes.

Sometimes it turns out to be the alternator so you may have to disconnect the wires to that to eliminate it.

The last drain I had turned out to be a faulty radio.
 
@Russell O has a great idea regarding the Mech course! Do they offer evening clAsses in your area that both of you could attend?? They're usually pretty cheap and you'll get a solid idea about how your car works and possibly be able to take it into the shop and perform some of the simpler work it needs yourselves. Just a thought that could save you money along the way!! Glad things are taking a turn for the good finally!! JIM

That's a great idea, Jim. I could do with taking one of these courses, as I am reluctant to do repair work - safety reasons - nuts and bolts left over after job is done?:banghead:
 
Never a bad idea even if you never do any work yourself but gives you an idea on what does what. Once you know that it may help you when you have to attend a station or repair facility to more clearly describe the problem and potentially save them time diagnosing which leads to $$ saved!! JIM

Old cars like our's are only nuts and bolts and a few wires compared to today's cars that have a sensor for everything.

Very easy with a manual and some advice from the experts on this awesome forum.
