Mobile Signal in the UK Where?

There is no service obligation on mobiles so they plan and spend on economic returns. 95% of population and 85% of area has coverage albeit some at 2g. If you want 100% coverage at 4g your bill will go up significantly. I'm not defending the mobile operators in any way - they like any business serving its shareholders has to provide the necessary returns.
Even with tv and radio we don't provide 100% coverage and a significant amount of the cost is provided by the government and hence you and I in tax.
Greater mobile coverage could be got by increasing transmitter and phone powers but issues on radiological issues will soon return.
What is needed for the mobile companies to agree to network hoping when yours can't provide you with a signal. Only government will force that but they are tied up on other issues.

Got more sheep than people round here, maybe if the sheep had mobiles there'd be better coverage, but there's nothing on any network in my little valley. Leave the phone switched off until I go out, because it just flattens the battery searching frantically for a signal.:(

They just ramp up the power output searching for a signal so flatten the battery even more quickly. :(

Now though, with ever increasing technology, putting GPS devices and mobile data onto sheep so you can find them might get the network providers to increase coverage

I agree 100% would not be achievable and I understand that there is no obligation on the mobile companies to provide signal to all areas however if the mobile companies were forced to bring their network up to a standard before being allowed access to the latest set of frequencies then it would make for a better system for ALL not for the ones that live in the economically viable areas.

@Nodzed I thought you were using smoke signals to communicate down in the Forest =))=))

Nice idea, but, HM Government wouldn't want to stop money flowing into the coffers. Money talks - sadly you don't :(
