Are they actually drilling there - or did they just stop for a pint on their way down the firth?

No, there's a maintenance and construction yard across the firth at Nigg, where many rigs were built. Now they come in for scheduled maintenance and repair, and occasionally decommissioning. When the oil narket is depressed, up to fourteen rigs can be parked up in the firth, but there are only a couple in at the moment.
