I know how you are feeling as I hit the side of my car on the garage a few years ago.

Gail's E89 lives in the garage and that's a tight fit. Less than 1" each side on the frame with the mirrors our but that's actually a great guide - If the mirror is going to hit the door frame then so is the car. Getting in and out the car has to be 100% straight. The way is is guided by two suspended tennis balls in line and the way out is the edge of the rear wheel arch on the line of blocks on the drive. There's less than 1" near side in the garage due to a mountain of suspended tools, bikes and wood and then just enough drivers side to open the door with the window open. Using these guides each and every time it works. Deviate and the car loses paint.
The tennis balls can be a pain when moving around the garage though. Not so much the balls themselves, but the heavy nuts that make them hang straight. But, a bit of physical pain is nothing compared to financial pain of fixing scrapes.

Now that's well organized @Redline , but actually I've never had a problem going in or out and as you say, the wing mirrors,which are close,give me a good guide. I'd got the car on the drive in front of my other one and was trying to move it over to one side so I drove the front end forward into the garage at an angle and was backing out at an angle. Big mistake! My fault for being a lazy git and not moving the other car out of the way. I never learn.
