Hey guys I'm new to the forum and just got my first z3, 2.8 so I plan this too.

Just wanted to chip in and say you will massively benefit from a remap after doing this. I did it on my e36 328 Coupe, got it remapped a few months after the mod, and the difference was again a big step up from the hardware swap. It made 229bhp on the rolling road and I can't remember the figures but felt a lot more tourqey. The ecu needs to be reprogrammed to most effectively use all the extra airflow. If you can find a tuner that does bmws they should be familiar with the mod and know what to do. It's a fantastic mod and the remap really takes the m52 up to the next level. Cheers, Sam.
Great write up @Oldguysrule do it :)

229bhp is a nice bump.
Was this on TU (dual vanos) engine or single vanos?

Good to see you've quoted the bhp as this question was asked recently but couldn't be proved. So the uplift in bhp from the manifold conversation and a remap is 36bhp. 30 ish was suspected making it 3.0 territory so that's a cracking result.

Yes, 36bhp doesn't sound like a lot, however the manifold swap without remap can lose you some mid range torque, and the remap will restore all that and then some. I do remember having a few 'encounters' with E46 330 i & d, to which the results were in my favour, a similar bhp, but a good few kg lighter.

Thanks dino I will do when finished , I just need to find Simota induction kit which is in stock in the uk, and find somebody who's good with Bmw ecu remaps in the Midlands area ,and then the 3.0 z3 itching rash won't be as bad

I believe zedonist did an extensive research on the PiperCross and found them to be superior to all the other cone filters including Simota so might be worth a look @Jimmy Weston!! JIM

Well I tried to do the manifold conversion today and failed miserably ,I striped all the wiring off and started on the fuel rail ,only to find I can't get the wiring harness off the injectors ,you can't get in anywhere on the m52tu fuel rail to release the clips from the injectors,so I had a go with a tiny 10ml socket prizing the harness out the way to get to 4 bolts underneath the wiring harness.then finally managed to pull the injector rail up and out,but not far enough up so I could rest them on the cam cover, I can only assume the metal fuel pipe on the rail is bolted to the back off the head, which I can't get at or see, so know I'm off to the pub know for beer, it won't help my situation ,but it ul sure make me feel a load better

Simon,
As I posted earlier, I have done this on my 328 with an expensive all in one kit, but that was a few years ago. I got in touch with hack engineering who said they no longer supply the kit.
So far I have a manifold, and on order a bored out m52 throttle body and this kit:

So hoses, brackets and connections I still need to sort out. There is several diys online but all seem to differ slightly. I've emailed a couple of breaking 325i on ebay to ask for the brackets etc. Just going the diy route seems to be a bit confusing at the moment. I'm concerned about all the sensors and tubing getting routed properly. What grade of hose should I order if I'm to make it myself with T bits etc...

Cheers

Ref the kit above I know the adapter plate is for the tb, and I have ordered new tb and inlet gaskets fron dealers. I believe the small bits are for the fuel rail offset. The larger cylinder is to blank a hole just behind the tb inlet, but what should go there... What sensors are involved. I see your kit came with some sort of connector? I have read about getting the boot from a m50 to mount a sensor or drilling a hole on the m52 one?

I'm sure it'll be clearer once I get stuck in again, I just want to make sure I have all the correct bits. Cheers.

I'm guessing there is no chance to make this happen on the M54 is there.
I can't even have a ITB kit thanks to the bloody gas by wire...

Simon, bit of a long shot after 3 years, but I don't suppose you still have the Hack Engineering instructions for this kit?
