My better half is into knitting. Buys wool in hanks and then needs to roll them into balls. I've been the mug who stands there at night with my arms out with the hank on them as she rolls up the yarn. Usually while trying to watch Wheeler Dealer. Being a male, I can't do both jobs at the same time, so decided to fix the problem. Made her a wool swift and now I can watch Wheeler Dealer in peace.

The greater the force needed to turn the swift results in a tighter ball of wool. So made it light out of 19mm pine boards and used a Lazy Susan bearing plate between the spinning section and the base to reduce the friction.

It works very well.
