Well I did try to photograph everything as I was taking it apart but this was underneath the manifold! I can't remember where the connection to the small spigot (orange arrow in photo) goes..... I think there was a small rubber pipe attached about 250mm long but connected to what? The larger spigot adjacent is the purge valve so not that.

If anyone with a single vanos 6 cyl could have a look at where the small rubber pipe under the manifold goes to, that would be really great.

Vacuum at back of fuel rail I think?
Brilliant - thanks - I'm sure thats it. The fuel pressure regulator is fitted on the fuel rail. I'd taken the fuel rail off and stored it safely in the workshop which is why I hadn't seen the vacuum connection. My Bentley manual suggested the regulator was next to the fuel pump but I was sure it wasn't - just couldn't find one elsewhere.

So I think then Dino, its the corner plug in connection going to the fuel rail & the small side connection underneath the manifold going to the purge valve.

This has been bugging me for about 3 days now so thanks again MRH1966.

I can't put it all back just yet though as I'm doing all the power steering stuff!

Steve.
