No. It's the correct one. However I stumbled across a problem while removing the old one. Old one still in place as I couldn't remove the lower bolts without running the risk of them breaking off, the two lower nuts rounded off so I thought no problem I will use my Erwin flute nut removers, then I desided against this as I didn't want to run the risk of snapping them off, I have another plan.

Sorry my ginger haired friend but you have lost me, you still want to remove the thermostat but want to sell the new one you bought to replace it?......

kind of, i will leave my stuck open thermostat in place and use an inline thermostat from a renault 5, this i can simply push into the rubber hose. its a common mod as some cars are poorly designed with thermostats located in daft places like behind the timing belt.
they look like this. and they just so happen to be the same size as the hose used in most cars. you need to drill a small 2mm hole into it, but it does work, as far as im aware dont think it has been done on an M44 before as the original thermostat is in an easy place to get to (you dont even need the stupid special tool to remove the fan either, you can just simply un-clip the fan cowling and lift it out of the way then unbolt the fan, took about 20 min), problem i have is i dont want to break off the bolts trying to remove it.

these are the two culprits. and yes my engine bay does need a good clean, prob why they seized in the first place
That's a novel idea Jason, just bear in mind that if your stat is stuck open there is nothing to say that one it could free off and the stick shut. Maybe not likely but I would replace the original.

i,ve just replaced mine & the differance is huge the cabins nice & cosy now i would change the unit
Replacing the original is err risky, I use the zed everyday and can't afford the risk of breaking them off, if I take it to a garage somewhere there is no reason they won't break them off too, leaving me with a problem. Running this online one has its problems, the M44 and maybe the 6 pot too has a short circuit and long curcuit cooling system, it uses the short while warming up then switches to long to balance the temperature. The problem here is I can't use the thermostat in the long curcuit as it will never get hot enough, if all is working as it should this is not the case as the thermostat is in the engine, my only option is to use it in the short curcuit and see what happens.I may need to add more holes to heat it up quicker the problem I have with the original thermostat is the emissions.

ok, this is now NOT for sale as i have spotted a small puddle under my car the other thermostat arrived today too so it looks like - out with the drill and get the stud extractors out, i must have disturbed it, unless i now have a leak at the drain plug.

well a small update. this may well still be up for sale again soon, so i removed the fan cowling, then fan so i could get a better view of where it was leaking, took some hunting down. could not find the leak at first so pressurised the rad, turns out both the small and large seal on the expansion bottle were leaking under presure. radiator out/ tank removed and a quick visit to B and Q seals changed and all back together. bled system then quick spin, and guess what it actually reached temperature (almost) it was actually over the quarter and hovering about halfway onto the next marker (vertical), haven't seen it that high for about 18 months, maybe more. so i will let it cool back down then recheck the levels and try bleed again and see what happens.
