To my mind your thinking is brilliant.i can see where it's coming from for so many years the weapon of choice in our part of the country is the MK2 ford escort.if you had one of those you were " the man" no one asked about top speed ,it was all about acceleration,we don't have a motorway for 50 miles so it never figured.

Thanks Miller, it was my mk2 escort that gave me the inspiration, it was modified to 1765 with Kent cam, dcoe etc and the fly wheel and crank assy lightened and balanced together, it was a barn stormer.

Thanks Ash, sums up my research very neatly, although they make the M40 flywheel sound easy, which it may be on the e36, but on the Z3 M44 there is a different pin configuration and you need shorter bolts, pressure plate and clutch etc, so add £200 on to the cost.

When doing custom stuff like this it always is: $$! Here more $$$$ there. I think that you've got the handle on this one Zed. Thanks for the compliment I guess I haven't killed all my brain cells with drugs yet, but give me time, I'll get there. JIM

Well went to have a look at progress today and drop off the pressure plate to size up the hardened steel clutch plate, and then we discussed this:

throttle body.jpg

Hopefully be finished at around the same time as the fly wheel

Yes, big bore throttle body, be interesting to see what it does, but expect to get the best out of it will be when I have the remap done at the end of this little project.

I know Jim, I have been looking at engines on ebay for £150 - £200 and thinking what if I had one taken out to 2.1 litres, fast road cams etc etc.

It will be my next conversation in the new year.........

Hope you're watching Ash's project! He's changing intake, TB And cams without the bore job. If you go to 2.1 is there a stroker crank also on the board? It's that "what if" that has been the line from day one that's brought us to today. Go for it, I'm loving it! Stay outside the box, you may break new ground!! JIM

Well thought i would add an update, its not related but i know how frustrating it is waiting for these types of discussions to move forward, anyway had an issue with my ASC and ABS lights tripping, and diagnosed this back to a misfire, the culprit at the time was an arcing plug lead, dutifully swapped out, that done the lights went away and the codes never appeared until Monday, so ASC & ABS lights triggered again, funny thing though they only trigger when the car is running from cold, on Monday I had a longish trip to the Engine Builder, lights trigger in 10 minutes of driving, anyway on the way back the lights cleared and never triggered once. Short story long, figured it had to be plugs, so jump on the net and order some new plugs - NGK BKR6EQUP, these are the quad electrode platinum tip plugs and not the Iridium plugs i currently had installed.

Well special delivery today, new G-Shock Watch and 4 spark plugs, well i was on line i might as well have done some extra shopping, missus thinks the plugs cost over £100 ;)

So this morning cup of tea in hand (not coffee Gaz) start to remove the plugs, number 1 is loose, so there is good start, number two has corona staining, three and four look fine. Overall the condition of the tips is excellent showing a nice running engine, mind they had been in 3 years:

New plugs installed codes reset, and off for a drive, ASC and ABS light reset itself and not come back, and no pending codes for a misfire, have to put it down to plug 1 or 2.

X Merry Xmas X Rich

Well project is still on track, spoke to Martin earlier this week, and we're manufacturing as we speak.

In the mean time, I read this:

And then I bought this:

And it as per the graph has made a noticeable difference, K&N has really gone down in my estimations now.

Started on the rear subframe today, following last weeks visit yo Lee, going well but being repelled at the moment by these:

I should have picked up the flywheel yesterday, but snow and a blown van heater motor forced a stand down and maintenance to Frank Martin took place in stead.

If anyone is wondering, yes I am still wearing a T Shirt, you soft southerners, and on the upside, plenty of Tea courtesy of Mrs Zedonist to keep me going.........

I would be happy to make some for you mate no problem. I haven't heard yet whether the last pair I made have been fitted yet. Let me know the measurements and type of unions when you're ready.

Tony.

I will do, they are the hard lines from the rear caliper to the flexi, which will in turn be a braided line.
