Passed with fying colours and no adviseries, and just needs a final polish to be ready for The Silverstone Classic (Sunday) But while they had engine running to get it hot for exhaust check the engine light came on, they turned it of then on again a few times and it has stayed off ever since. I asked them to get a code and it read 68 Tank Venting Valve. Garage suggested reason could be extremenly hot weather, lack of use since start of Covid, under 100 miles and just prior to Covid had a tank full of petrol.
Any thoughts people ?? where is this valve located ? any point in replacing at this stage ? Geoff

Happy for you that your Z passed the mot 🌞
Enjoy Silverstone 👍

If its the 3.0l here is parts diagram, shows it sited in engine bay linked by hose to throttle body side of engine held on by a rubber mounting block https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CN52-EUR-08-2000-Z3-BMW-Z3_30i&diagId=13_1744
1.9 slightly different diagram here https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CM12-EUR-12-1999-Z3-BMW-Z3_19&diagId=13_1737 looks to be in engine bay maybe at the front of engine instead of on the side.
Thanks for the info its the 3.0l so will check it out Geoff

During MOT the light stayed off and has been off since but just as we started our 220/30 mile journey to our sons ready to go off to Silverstone it came back on and has stayed on. What is the best grade fuel to use these days with all this change Thanks

The ligh has stayed on for the last 430 miles and have not noticed any change.
Spent a good day at Silverstone watching some great racing of old classics

Morning
garage fitted new tank venting valve from BMW, not used much since but took it out just now to fill up for a drive with our garden club to Devon about 2 hour drive BUT tahe enging light has come on as soon as I started it up, any ideas please ? teh garage manager did say that getting old valve off a pipe in a awkward location had come off, do you think that it may have come of again ? I will contact garage first thing Monday as only 1/2 miles away. Thanks in advance Geoff

Need to put a code reader on it to see what set it, may be unrelated to what you had done

OK Thanks will get that done, I have the reader installed in a laptop if garage system does not read it will let you know Regards
Geoff

Garage booked up for next two weeks so asked my nephew if he had time to help remotely fortunately Yes lots of codes ,tank valve and various lambada codes all of which have been cleared, took it for a 15mile run and engine light still off. On a trip today to RHS Rosemore Devon about 100 mile round trip and will see if it stays of, if not will
put code reader on and see what comes up, maybe a small split in a hose, who knows

After about 200 miles engin light has returned and riht at the end of a recent trip break light and brake fluid lights came on so will have to get it connected to code reader again

managed to get the readings yesterday and all lambda related, so hunt for split or hole starts

May be worth investing some time in a smoke tester, not got one myself but it's one of those things I'll get round to.
