Pictures of a wheel that came detached from a HGV in the M6 J28. The son wanted to come out but luckily dad said no :woot:

Pictures from Cumbria Crack, FB. Nobody hurt thankfully.

Sends a shiver down the spine, wheel looks to small to HGV and illegal as well

That's what I thought when I saw it mate but it's from a bona fide news feed.
Just looked at it again and its definately a HGV wheel, A little girl not far from me was not so lucky last year, she was walking to shcool and was hit on the back by a Landrover wheel that had come off, the car didn't have an MOT and the girl was killed

That's very sad for her and her family mate :(

I'm afraid as an HGV tyre its perfectly legal mate. The legal limit on a truck tyre is also 1mm not 1.6mm as a car is. I don't like running them but if I defected that it wouldn't be changed. The scrubbing to the sides is legal as well aslong as the middle 3/4 is within the 1mm limit.
We have yellow flags on our wheels nuts, if one is out of line with the rest you know it's loose.

Some HGVs have a retractable axle running smaller diameter wheels.

When they come off they will go forwards. Crossing into oncoming traffic gives drivers zero chance of trying to miss them.

One lucky guy here. His son is even luckier. Thankfully the truck wasn’t still attached..

That's true Ian, don't see many with the smaller wheel now days, my unit has a "lift" axle but has full size wheels. My drawbar trailer however runs a full set of smaller wheels so wonder if it could have come off one of those?

That's scary. Just goes to show the amount of energy that a loose wheel has stored in it. As above, glad no-one was seriously hurt.

Constantly going up and down the local road, US192, There are numerous 8 wheel , 4 axle dump trucks which are continually moving bits of Florida from one place to another as building goes on. One steered axle and 3 weight bearing axles with the front one having much smaller sized wheels and tyres.
I'll try to get some pictures.

Tony.
