Lowering cholesterol

You can eat as much grass and as many seeds as you want

I'm on diet Fostets

Tony.

get one of them NutriBlenders and put all your fruit and salads through it.
I can remember when "eating all your meals through a straw" used to be a threat....
Looking at some of them concoctions,.... it could still well be.

Just a quick update now Xmas is over.

I've managed to totally avoid fried food. Been scrambling eggs.

I've not had any cheese, missing it terribly.

Apart from mince pies Xmas day I've cut out pastries.

I'm really missing fatty red meat, I will still have the odd steak here and there.

I'm eating more chicken and fish.

I'm trying the Benecol drinks, Benecol spread instead of butter.

I'm fine in the daytime, later on at night I get really hungry and just can't stop thinking of food. Need to work out if it's habit, dehydration, or I'm not eating enough.

Chocolate is the hardest, my family have it so it's always in the house, so I've not been able to cut that out completely, I was put on this earth to eat chocolate.

I'll update again when I've been for my next blood test.

Stick at it Tim. I'm a foodie and have to watch how much I consume in a day. I'll be following your lead shortly as I need to loose a stone.

I was told mine was 7.8 in September and put on Statins. They didn't agree with me so stopped taking them and agreed with doc to try on deit alone.

Been a struggle with certain foods cheese being the main one but think all is going good back next week for a check up so will find out

Please report back when you get your latest Cholesterol result, and the HDL result as well if you can. It will be interesting to see how much effect your dieting has had. How long is it since you stopped taking the statin?

Stooped the statin after 2 weeks so a while and will ask for the HDL result

My main issue was the fried breakfasts 4 times a week and only had a couple since and all grilled so hoping a big difference

Thanks. So the statin effect should have worn off a while ago. Why I'm interested is because, as I stated way back up this thread, my understanding is that around 80% of your cholesterol is manufactured in your body, so in theory dieting might not make a huge difference. Genetics plays a much larger part in whether you have hypercholesterolaemia or not. I hope for your sake that my theory is proven wrong.

By the way, don't be fobbed off with them telling you that your results will take a week or more. Basic Biochemistry tests will be analysed the same day, or at the very latest the next, and the results will be sent direct to your GP's computer. If you have a morning appointment, there's every chance the results will be available by late afternoon.

Got the results yesterday and level is down to 7 so a bit of progress the HDL was 1.9 so not sure of thats good

Awaiting a telephone consultation on monday to see what is next

You will need to see what your doctor says. What many people don't realise is that the result you get for any test will depend on the method your lab has used to analyse the sample. Each lab has its own way of doing things, uses different equipment and different reagents, and that is why a reference range from one lab may not be useful when applied to results from a different lab.

However, take a look at this calculator https://www.diabetes.co.uk/cholesterol-to-hdl-ratio-calculator.html for some guidance. Although I was more than qualified to perform the tests, I am NOT qualified to interpret them.
