Unfortunately gone
i found popped spot welds in the trunk floor under the boot carpet and although I'm not overly worried by it given all the conflicting information, I was wondering whether the holes left could be strengthened by having slightly larger rivets put in. My neighbour works at BAE and has access to larger rivets and the gun to pop them in. I understand that aeroplanes have different stress tolerances but has anyone tried this. It seems a pretty simple fix. Just need to know the thickness of the boot floor

They are spot welds rather than rivits not heard of anyone riviting it in you would probably be better to clean them off and replug weld them its likely to be stronger i imagine.

You should not uses aluminium pop rivets on car bodywork made of steel. The rivets will fail in quite a short time because of electrolysis between the two metals. Welding is the proper and lasting solution.

Using mild steel mig wire too.

I've seen them drilled out and bolted back together in the US I think.
