hi guys looking for a bit of advice,

My friend has offered me his dads old Z3, I’m looking to sell it on it’s got 160,000 miles on the clock P Reg, Silver, Body work, Alloys and interior in great condition for the age. But has not been MOT’d now for 4 years car starts and runs fine but trying to figure out what options I have interms of selling the car would it be best to try and get the car motd again part it out or sell with No MOT
What kind of price would I be looking for selling without an MOT

Thanks in advance I haven’t owned a Z3 for a few years now so might be out of touch with the prices a bit.

Some more info on the car, also some pictures so people can see what extras it has. Interior and engine bay if you have them.

Is it a 4 cyl or 6 cyl
Does it have heated seats
Does it have roll hoops
Leather or cloth intertior

I would be very careful about getting sucked into thinking you can make a few quid out of this. Although as always with buying and selling it doesn't matter what you sell it for if you've bought it cheaply enough.

A 1.9 with 160k miles, no roll bars and no MOT is maybe around £500 worth. And you have the problem/cost of moving it from A to B, as will the buyer limiting your selling opportunities.

Getting the car through the MOT after 4 years could be expensive. And you might still only have a car worth £1,000.

Breaking it might fetch you between the £500 and £1,000. But unless you go at it enthusiastically to learn about the car while you dismantle it then it may become a slog.

I can only suggest you offer very little money for it (possibly not fair to your friend) and get out quick selling it on for a profit of a few beer tokens.

No point suggesting what I would do as I break cars periodically to feed my own projects and I'm geared up for it so my view is very different. If I had the time, space and requirement for more spares I'd break it. For me it's end of economical life and probably not worth returning to the road.

If it didn't have 160k it would be a better proposition with a years mot but as you are looking like you want to move it on or break it what you put out on it could be critical as pay too much it will end up an effort for little gain .

Why not invest £50 in a MOT and see what happens?
