Looking for a Z (Now found & Built!)

This one looks good on photos and paper - you need to take the car for a lengthy test drive on good surfaced roads and not so good roads - put the car through its paces. You need also to see the soft top up and inspect the rear window and hood condition generally - then start bargaining if you think the engine is acceptable and the car would make an interesting project. How does the car bodywork look?
If (from your initial post) your going to go for something a little quicker, I would go for the 2.8 or 3.00, I would expect to find a decent 2.8 for between £3000 £3500, and a 3.0 £3500 to £4000 (I have seen them a lot cheaper but in need of work)
Going on that ad, and its actual condition I should double the asking price for mine
The guy selling is over on .net and there is a bit about the car here. Member since 2007 so must have a background in them and looks like he spent some money on it. Reading the thread @mrscalex actually went to see it when it was originally up for sale. Here is the eBay ad. The wheels he put on look like the wrong ones on the front though as they look too wide, it has maybe had a set of wider rear wheels fitted to the front of it as well as the rear.
I definitely went to see this one in Swansea.

The Swansea car was very sound but needed various light cosmetic work that translated into quite a lot of paint that I felt made it too expensive.

Yes in the thread over on .net you said you went to see that one, which was the one the guy bought and is now selling 
If the scuffs and door dings etc have been sorted out, then with the addition of those new alloys (and includes originals) and the inclusion of the hard top then I would say that's a fair price for a nice car. Must be £500 + £200 to take into account for the hard top and spare wheels alone. So £3,100 for a 63k 2.0 in very good condition sounds okay.

Awesome, good find guys. I see in that ebay ad the last owner claimed there were only 5 in Mora Red. Anyone know if that's true?
It was rare but not sure that rare. @EnthuZiaZT may be able to help.

No it's not true. But it's a nice colour (and desirable colour) and there certainly aren't many of them. It also has matching seats which I believe are unique to that car. It's a shame it's a 2.0 rather than 2.2 but that would push their worth up a bit more and beyond some of us.

Hi and welcome to the forum. My advice be patient, the car you want is out there but you'll probably have to travel to find it I would go for a 2.8 or 3.0 personally. Good luck with the search.

The Mora is an official factory specced individual model and like the rest of the of the factory produced individuals ( which is different from my dakar which was a customer specced individual) they were produced for a time period and not a fixed number of units so true production numbers really hard to obtain. This is even more so for customer specced individuals as customer could add all sorts of options to build their car. But certainly the Mora is a rare car .

My wife wanted to go and look at this its probably her favourite zed colour and its only 70 miles from me but one thing and another never ended up going
Be patient, wait for the right car. I've bought three in the last year, all beauties with sub 40k mileage, all were under £5000
They were all 2.2's, I like that engine, the 3.0cc is very good but very hard to find and expensive.
If you really want good performance then the 3.2 M model is the one, but they are now quite a valuable thing.
I am very tempted to find one for a project and drop a V8 in, just as a hobby rather than an investment. Appreciating classic cars have to be kept standard in my opinion.
And to save wasted journeys looking at rusty substandard cars I would ask the seller to take some pics of the engine bay, especially the front panel. And the drivers seat bolster, so many advert pics hide these and you only find they're not good when you turn up to see the car.

I have a very detailed checklist on a clipboard when I look at a car. As well as reminding me what I need to check it usually lets the seller know you mean business.
If it's not local I send a subset of points as questions to the seller to see if it passes an initial assessment. If someone won't answer them I pull out. Although I did lose out because of this on a very lovely and reasonably priced Pistachio Green 3.0 which subsequently and coincidentally turned up at a classic car specialist locally having nearly doubled in price. I'm in Swindon, the original sell was in Cornwall and he said just come and see it... er no.
