Just trying to help out here as I don't usually use the links in the e-mails to access the site, I usually use the link in my favourites.

So as an experiment I have used one of my e mail links and resulting in

THREADLINK.jpg

Choosing link 1 - I was presented with the login screen which confused me as it says if I want to VIEW the post, why should I need to log in to view?
Anyways I logged in and typed TEST and submitted and it went through without logging in again.

Choosing link 2 - just took me straight to the beginning of the thread and recognised that I was already logged in on another tab

Choosing link 3 - took me to "Forthcoming Events" but also recognised that I was already logged in on another tab

I then closed down every tab (without logging out) and then tried each link

Link 1 - took me straight to last post in thread
Link 2 - same as 1st time
Link 3 - same as 1st time

All 3 links recognised that I was still logged in.

Which link do you usually use Boysie?

I'm on IE9 and Kasperski Internet Security 12 - I am trying to see if there is a setting in KIS.

Am I helping or confusing things more??

Can you try installing google chrome or Firefox so we can compare the browsers to see if it works ok with one of the others?

Also have you got the compatibility mode enabled for the site, shouldn't need it, but changing it one way or the other may give different results.

I suspect it's Internet explorer playing about. Microsoft sent out an update which one of our machines installed last week and then promptly blue screened every 5 minutes until we removed their update. Hasn't crashed once since. I used to use ie and then ended up having so many issues like you are experiencing that I dropped it a few years back. I went to Firefox which then with one version would crash all the time and so am now on chrome. I do also frequently use opera which is a nice browser but still use the others regularly for testing and
monitoring situations like these.

It might also be worth checking what plugins you have installed in ie and turn them all off. I had an instance in chrome where one plugin was causing sites to load very slowly so I turned them all off and then back on one at a time to find out which one was causing the problem. There are so many things these days that can create almost unique situations so it's a bit of trial and error to get to the bottom of it.

Trying the alternative browser to start with will be a good test and then we can narrow down in ie if the alternative browser behaves as expected.

Just to add, I never log out, I just close the window when finished.

Snoops
I use 1. Normally without a problem, I read the topic
This doesn't always happen, when i reply to the thread the log in scenerio happens
i have never thought about using the other options
As james said, it could well be explorer throwing a wobbly

Great stuff. what can happen when you bookmark a site is that the bookmark actually links to what's known as a session. The sessions expire after a certain time so when you link back to it, it doesn't know what to do so would ask you to login to try and log in again. Glad you're up and running again :)

totally out of the blue whilst viewing post
it wanted me to log in

OK - I've tried clearing out my cache and cookies and I've still got the login problem

Only thing I can think of is that Virgin recently upgraded and changed supplier of AV and Firewall software - I'll need to investigate the settings

No it's not silly at all. If you can put up with firefox, chrome or opera for a a few days to test the theory we can work out if it's a possible computer/antivirus issue or narrow it down to internet explorer. Once we know what we're looking at then we can start making changes to your browser settings, for example, to see if we can cure it for you but without knowing for sure that it is internet explorer it's going to be very difficult to trouble shoot from this end :)

Ok James
I'll use firefox for a week, and see what happens
I have a feeling its explorer 8-|

Thanks Ray,

We can go through the settings and try to figure out why IE9 isn't keeping the session running then if it does turn out to be the browser.

I hope you find that Firefox grows on you Ray
It's different to beginn with but in the long run I think it's much better than any of the IEs.
I still use it occasionally but my Mac computer performs better with its own browser (Safari)
If you get stuck with anything, give us a shout.
