Just had my rear discs and pads done, and now when I am coming to a stop at traffic lights etc the brakes make a faint grating/grinding noise, you can only hear it with the roof off/windows down so could have been missed on the test drive by the mechanic.

I've checked the backing plate and that seems fine, so im not quite sure what it could be. Could it just be the pads getting bedded in? I've probably driven about 15 miles in around 3 journeys since having them fitted.

Anyone have any ideas?

Connor.

did you have both pads and discs replaced,it will take a couple of hundred miles to bed in

Yes Phil, well, both pads and discs on the rear axle. The front ones are good. So the sound is probably just the pads and disc settling together?

Connor.

when you brake try braking sooner longer braking effectively dragging , but dont over heat them, give them a bit of time if still there jack car up spin the wheel see if you can feel anything could be as you fitted new pads the piston as been opened up and not releasing enough causing them to drag,

There should be absolutely no sound comming from those brakes. If they were new discs, and new pads, no sound should be coming from them. Something that shouldn't be there is grinding. More often that not its a bent backing plate, but you said you checked this. If they are not new discs, and they were not 'turned down', there is ofter a slight ridge on the outer edge left from the wear of the old pads, and the new ones will contact this first. But this should not be the case if everything is new. Jobs like that are usually guananteed and I recommend you bring the car back and let them examine it. It should cost you nothing... Frankie at work at Caesars..........back to bacarat..........

Thanks frankie,

I am awaiting a new accelerator cable to arrive at the mechanics and they are fitting that, so I'll ask them about it when I go, in the mean time I just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas.
Do you work at Caesars palace in Vegas? Or is there a Caesars in Atlantic City?

Connor.

I work in AC. I sometimes am surprised at some of the expressions you guys in the Uk use. I was just dealing bacarrat to some Asians and they were looking at me like I was crazy. As I was dealing to them, I kept laughing. All I could think about was you talking about 'grinding as you bed-in'. I hadn't heard that expression before and it just sounded funny to me. I couldn't explain it to them as many of them don't speak English. Frankie at work.

We do have a lot of expressions over here, as I am sure you do over there.

What is Atlantic City like compared to Las Vegas? We went th LV last year and it was the best holiday (Vacation as you'd say) we had ever been on.

Connor, Also at work.

Hi @Connor, more likely to be the old parking brake shoes just rubbing inside the disc/drum.

Tony.

It's incredible, it really is like nowhere I've ever been before. Didn't stay at Caesars, stayed the south end of the strip at the Luxor. Very good, but then again, I think Vegas hotels are some of the best in the world.
