Hi Guys, I've got a strange non uniform knocking - It only seems to start when the car is warm/has been driven for 20 > 30 mins. When in the car is seems to come from the nearside, perhaps passenger footwell but sounds travel.
I've had my local garage look at the car yesterday - I had a split wishbone bush (had only had new control arms and bushes just over a year ago) so must had caught a pot hole, presumed this was the route of the problem. also had the anti roll bar bushes replaced while it was there.
Car seemed fine initially but then after 30 minutes the knocking came back, the garage checked the car over and didn't see anything else obvious, wondered if anyone has any thoughts - especially as it seems specific to when the car is warm?

Thanks
paul

Does the creaking appear on lock ? I have this but no knocking just creaking and it is in my case the lower ball joint as i found if i spray cold water on it it removes it instantly so although it all looks well the lack of lubricant or expansion when hot causes it to bind abit.

Hi, It does seem to be there on lock. but that said is also apparently at low speeds in a straight line.

Worn anti roll bar bushes normally would cause knocking if the ball joints fail.My lower arms are new too but they both need replacing as there is play in them.
Its not the upper suspention tops is it ? There is a bearing in there check they are tight and lubricated may help.
Its a tough one as lots of things could cause it.

It got much worse on the way home yesterday, I'm not sure the Top Mounts would make a sound like this, it also doesn't seem to do when going over speed humps for example.. but again, it didn't do it for about 10 mins then when warm it started but this time much worse, sounds like something has gradually come loose - the exhaust was checked the other day but it has that sort of sound to it. Will have to have it back on the ramp..

Lends credence to the moral of only using OE quality components such as those from Lemforder or Meyle. The market is awash with lower suspension arms, some dirt cheap. I retained my original lower arms and fitted Meyle Heavy Duty ball joints. Doesn't answer your question though I know
