Hi, recently I have noticed i can put the key in the ignition but sometimes it doesn't turn. If the car is running sometimes it will not turn off. As its also an issue when running is it likely the key being wore that is the issue?

If it is the key, can I get one cut from a worn one? I have no spare.

If it's not the key what is best repair?

Thanks

I have seen this problem on a Ford Escort, it was solved by replacing the ingnition barrel, as the pins in the barrel were worn out.

Hi, If I replace the cylinder I assume I need a new key. Do I just get this keys transponder reprogramed from my old key?

You can swap the transponder its just a separate bit of solis state plastic within the key

Before you start dismantling and spending money, give the key and barrel a good soaking with WD40 (other maintenance sprays are available), and push the key in and out repeatedly. It may simply be crud in the barrel.

Recent post of mine here shows you what is inside the key

Thanks colb - I have a 1997 so basic older key with light. Key is fine at the minute but every so often its an issue - this is what make me think it may just be the key.
