Yes, it is and last weekend they said the murder rate there is now higher than in New York. What does that tell you? It tells me that our justice system is not as tough as it should be, hence copying that link. You b******* off to Holland so why does it interest you?

Lots of people are getting murdered in London at the moment.......
I wouldn't want to go there
It's frightening that this is happening on your doorstep
 
The news doesn't always paint the right picture. Notice how every bit of violent crime in London is now being reported. Makes it feel worse than it is.

Saying that, there is probably a decent correlation between police cuts and crime increases
 
The correlation between police cuts and this crime isn’t the sole cause of these crimes alone. It’s several things like lack of intel, lack of community contact as well as the habits of the well off driving criminal behaviour down the food chain. Cuts elsewhere in other services too don’t help.
People are looking for simple fixes to solve complex problems without drilling down to the root cause. That doesn’t absolve those involved in committing these acts of any responsibility, but, when you deconstruct the machinery that supports any advanced society we shouldn’t be surprised when chaos ensues.

Give the bobby on the street a gun, it works over here and in other European countries.
And don't go comparing this to the USA, 99% of the the crimes are knife crimes in Europe.
i.e. Joe Public does not walk around with a loaded weapon as we have what is called "Gun Control".

More than you care to imagine I suspect have access to weapons Mike.
That won’t have much impact on these crimes. The police are mightily scared of discharging a weapon where only knives are involved and the criminals know that or don’t care.
When caught there is little meaningful sanctions that can be taken against them. A stretch at HMP is a university giving them three meals a day and a free degree of crime.
Many cite the lack of opportunity. Fairly soon though there will be many jobs available for them to do, but, many of them are scared of proper work.
 
It is a terrible situation with all this knife crime and now gun crime in the uk. The police cuts obviously don't help but if the officers we have got cannot carry out stop and search without all the accusations of racism that goes hand in hand with this practice what can they do. I can not believe the stop and search is not welcomed by the ethnic communities as these crimes are disproportionately an ethnic problem. I would have thought the older generation would welcome this in order to stop their children / grandchildren from getting murdered. The parents should also take responsibility for their children why are 13-14 year olds out late at night ? It is so easy to let your kids go out and do their own thing and be out of the way and out of your hair but at the end of the day they are their kids and they should act like responsible parents.
 
Totally agree Slam, even the Mayor London has grudgingly agreed the if it's black kids who are mainly involved they you can't call the cops "Racist" for stopping black kids. I wonder how many of these kids also come from so called "broken" homes? I watch news channels from the US and they have exactly the same issues there, also in the Caribbean too. Coincidence? I think not.

It all boils down to family values and work ethic , they want material things quick don't want to work for it so turn to selling drugs for a quick buck. Then with drugs comes all the problems we are seeing now. This has been going on in the US for years now and we are following suit.
 
Many of these youngsters are just the 'foot soldiers' for serious crime organisations from the likes of Russia etc. Whilst I'm an advocate of Stop and Search (it works), you need to cut the head off the snake, lots of influence and money up there.
 
Not just that though, these kids soon realise it's much easier to simply take things that people have worked hard to get in the middle of the night by burgling houses. Consequently they have no values at all not even for their own well being or the well being of others (including their own family members) hence using knives and guns with no worry of what might happen. Scary s***.

Too true Andy, did you ever watch "The Wire" it certainly is an eye opener regarding how drugs ruins lives and makes people very rich.
