Okay from what I've read the 453s are performance type whilst the 914s are a touring tyre..

Next question, as my car is at the bodyshop. On the style 18 rims 17" should I be ordering 245/40 for the rears?

Last set of tyres I bought were winters so can't remember what they should be.

cheers

Ash

@Ashbandicoot 245/40 on the rear and 225/45 on the front. Both 453's and at the moment very happy. @Lee recommended them to me so they have been M tested too.

I think @stevie_a is running on those Falkens & @pgunter just bought a set of the FK453's if that helps!
Yes i am running 914's all round, great tyres, reduces tram lining on my car ( but i don't not have big wheels )

as for Flaken tyres i have them on :

x4 on the z3

x4 on the Volvo

x4 on the Triumph

x4 on my work van

so you could say i am well happy with them.

Disagree Tony. You are paying for a service and they should set them to the pressure recommended by the car manufacturer for the size of wheels. If you run at different presures as to whats recommended then i agree they dont need to, but should be set to at least recommended presures.
I absolutely agree with you Bill, but in the real world that won't and doesn't happen unless you as the customer make it happen as I said. It may do at your local BMW dealer but not at a town centre tyre house, I guarantee that. I've been in this trade for nearly 40 years and nothing has changed. Most people these days don't run the original wheels on their cars, it's usually the very first thing that gets changed, therefore any tyre pressure charts that adorn a tyre bay wall are rendered useless as they only show standard tyre sizes as fitted at the factory.:)

I must be lucky as everytime i have new tyres fitted they have always asked what pressure they are set to. Mind i have used them for years and i know them quite well

I had my old Merc re-shod a fortnight ago and although it's still totally standard they asked me what the tyre pressures were because their chart didn't go back 30 years=))

That is also an on going problem too. To buy up to date Autodata charts is a very expensive pastime as they very soon become obsolete. I have two regular customers who have the old merc SL's and we have next to no data for these old cars anymore, even some modern cars Carweb doesn't have much useful data to show. Nice that they asked you what pressures to use also as Bill said too, but that's the same almost as telling them what to put in, as I stated before.
