It's that pesky jammed seat motor...

Sorry to here this
@spurs fan in a coupe may be able to help here it looks like a wheel arch liner and some of the under tray.
The bumper is a skin that will unbolt as bad as it looks you may find repairing yourself will work out cheaper i would check you excess on the policy as you may get all the parts cheaper and in the long run premiums remain good.
I would check this before informing them, good luck with it and sorry it dampened you day .

@spurs fan in a coupe I'm in york but happy to drive to meet people (provided I don't encounter anymore poor badgers!)

The problem is we (my mum came out to meet me) made a call and decided I'd ring insurance as I didn't have breakdown. The plan had been for mum to come join me, leave her car in the village I was just outside of and ring her breakdown. But she said she'd spoken to my stepdad before she set off to find me and they thought it would be better this time to claim on insurance and just use them for breakdown too, so I just did that.

I am now starting to regret that! :( thinking could I have done it cheaper? I normally do source parts and people to help to do things as competitively priced as possible, and this is a first for me. My excess will be £500 and I've supposedly got the 'no claims protection' (although some people I've spoken to seem dubious about what that really means). Do you think it would be possible to ring the insurers and ask if I can pay for the emergency breakdown call out myself and say I'll do the repairs myself to cancel the claim. Or does it sound like it's too late for that now?

Bah! Re. Seats. Would love to travel up/down country to meet fellow roadster drivers if I could beg the offer of parts and help! I can pay in money for parts and chocolate, biscuits and grateful hugs for the rest!

To be honest Katie now you have informed the insurers I think to you will be looking at least a couple of hundered for the call out anyway and your renewal even though you have NCB will go up next time no matter. I think maybe a PM conversation with @BMBabe might help as she may be able to offer some advice.

UPDATE

So I've spoken to my friend (the panel beating one) about what happened and he told me I should avoid going through the insurance at all costs. He is coming this eve to check Felix out and assess damage and what needs to be done

I spoke to my insurers to let them know about it ( I had to really, because I knew they were going to get an invoice for the garage call out) and to ask what my options were - namely could I avoid a claim if I fixed the damage myself. Insurers would be happy with that and said the only thing i'd then have to pay is the invoice from the garage

Garage have sent an invoice to green flag. Turns out I am covered with green flag (on my dad's policy) so my hope is that they will cancel the invoice given I'm unwittingly a member. But I have to wait for the invoice to do the rounds and finally come back to me

Ah what a carry on! But I will fix felix! I'll keep you all posted with updates. @spurs fan in a coupe @Lee I may be needing to plead for parts from you yet :)

Seat motors and system too lean codes still on the to do list along with badger damage now :D Keeps you on your toes doesn't it!

I think you may be right, we just had to make a call there and then and in the heat of the moment when it happened it looked so bad and it seemed like the best course of action to take. It was definitely the wrong call. I'm hoping green flag will cancel the invoice given I'm actually a member, and hopeful my insurers might go easy on me. Provided my friend thinks it's easily fixable when he takes a look at it this eve, the insurers said they'll close down the case, so in theory it won't affect my policy - though of course the reality is that it probably will even in some indirect way! Hey ho, you live and learn I guess :/

Cancel the claim it will be a lot cheaper to sort out with fellows Zedders
Protected no claims bonus does help but your policy will still be loaded at renewal as you would of made a claim against it xx

I'm gonna take your advice and do just that lovely. Just worried now I've had to tell them will they hold it against me, and I've got to try convince green flag to drop the call out charge since I was a member without realising it! Doh. I'll fb message you in a bit xxx

Felix's Shopping List!!!

Ok so my friend is here with me now and has taken a look at Felix. We have a shopping list of parts - im hoping people can help!

We need....

- front bumper cover
- Offside front fog light
- offside front wheel arch liner
- front under tray (be nice to have, not essential though)

@spurs fan in a coupe @Lee I am still wanting to fix Felix's seat motor but think that's got to be job number 2 on the list now :D

Does anyone know if a 98 (offside) fog light from a pre-facelift z3 would fit a 2000 model like mine?

As is always the case, I can find the part I need for every car but mine! There are lots on eBay for very competitive prices, but they're all from 98/99 cars with the part number 63178360576
The part number for my car I believe is 63178377942

I'm hoping someone will say yes, the part ending 576 will fit a 2000 z3 like mine? ;)

Thanks in advance!

It looks from that info ^^^^ that the light was fitted to all zeds the dates 1994-2002 that covers every model.
Its also telling you the same light was fitted to the 5 series between 95-03.
Im sure im reading that right can someone else confirm ??
