The problem Frankie is that nothing anyone says (on any side) will change any views held and espoused by DT. He believes, contrary to received wisdom, that he is always 100% right. Sadly too, he will always get what he wants simply by bullying. The world is stunned at his threats and actions.
We all appreciate that there are some at the edges trying to subvert the demonstrators and cause damage, mayhem and even injury. It always happens. The more extreme the action the more extreme the reaction. That shouldn't destroy the overall message.
The actions of the state to achieve a publicity stunt shows that he has no understanding or acceptance that the majority have equal rights to him. For him to use the state machine to use religion (whatever your religious views if you have any at all) is seen by most as obscene and disrespectful, especially for him to assume that he has the right to use that backdrop for his own political purposes. His support for the second amendment over the first seems somewhat blind to the objectives of the constitution. He is bending it for his own ends and nothing else.
You said before that you use the BBC extensively to validate what you're getting on your own media. We know that while the BBC claims to be impartial, we know that given any flavour of government we have at any given time that they tend to take the opposing side (Some will disagree but I think they tend to be deliberately and even mischievously challenging rather than partizan) - we have seen very little if anything from Republicans either supporting or challenging DT. Is there unending support for DT or is, as it appears, that they are standing off and letting him make his own bed that they can later step away from him? Is he at risk of pushing some of his supporters on the margins to swallow their pride and vote tactically to drive him out? The increasing polarisation he is causing can't good for anyone. Sooner or later would you expect a backlash?
Is there a view there that institutions are being played and manipulated in a way that problems are likely to get worse rather than bridges built? That is what it appears from outside the USA. Or will they stand up to pressure and take a more independent stance? Are they backing away from the presidential dictatorship that DT wants to implement irrespective of the cost and consequence?
His action regarding the WHO seems baffling and short sighted. There may well be issues and problems with how the early days and relationship with China was blind to what was actually happening. I suspect we may never know. But, cutting off your nose to spite your face is hardly ever a productive response. Will WHO simply stop sharing information with CDC in response? We need and deserve a global response to this problem. Cutting your country off from that coordinated global response and sharing of information and knowledge risks being entirely counter productive. My son is working with information and data from both WHO and CDC. He finds some of he things CDC does is confusing, unmanaged and at times completely unstructured and baffling, even potentially dangerous. Can you trust the CDC to manage the USAs response alone?
