I guess even the best trained and tested pilots can get it wrong, if indeed that is what's happened.

Interesting dilemma. Some just think they can recover it and run out of talent, some are hellbent in staying to save the day due to a previous poorly calculated manoeuvre. Others though knowingly take one for the team to avoid further disaster. One such pilot was a Tornado pilot in the early 80's, his crippled kite was falling out of the sky and heading for a school, he told the rear to bang out, which he did and lived but the Jocky bravely stayed with it until the end and steered the crippled kite away from the school with no injuries to others. Oh, apparently his wife was in the Tower on duty listening all the way. BuggerAt what point as a trained pilot do you not eject?
