Had an idea for some time to buy a home abroad, for the whole family to use just something small and basic.Cant really afford one and the way the £ is it's going to be more difficult for some time. But we got a notification of a little apartment that was just about in our price range. It was also our 30 year anniversary last month so last Tuesday booked a flight to Milan £50 return ,that has to be one of the conditions of a base abroad, easy cheap flights, car hire £60 with insurance for 5 days.So here we are in one of our favourite places in the mountains around lake Maggiore.I understand how people love the sea and beach but it's not for me and fortunately Sarah feels the same.We stayed in a b&b in the hills above the lake in a very old house, and b****r me if the old guy didn't make a lot of the furniture himself,he was much more of a craftsman than me and made my efforts look pretty rustic with an emphasis on "rust" lol,but I came away with some brilliant ideas. We went to see the apartment and went to the local village shop, bar, cafe type of thing and had a bit of banter with the locals ,galles,Gareth Bale and iechyd dda ,great fun. The house is not for us but we're glad we came, the area is lovely we've done a little exploring been to Switzerland 20 mins away trying to find some snow lol

A beautiful part of the world, I was there a month ago and will definitely be returning. Great driving roads.

Like the location Hugh, our sort of area as well:thumbsup:. We did think at one time of getting a place in the French Alps, around Annecy way.

Looks like the Romans never got to finish that road in the last pic Miller....

Got to admit i have not been to that part, but now i have seen some pics of the area it is one area i will now have to plan into future trips

Looks lovely and peaceful :p
Hope you find what your looking for :)

Fabulous part of the world. Decent food too...the pound is taking a battering and foreigners snapping up our victorian terraces for 25% less in the space of a couple of months....let's hope more Italians vacate their properties. If they live in places such as this!

I moaned about the "Euroification" of us Brits over the years and am never ceased to be amazed at the queue for drive through Starbucks at 3pm in the afternoon, but even I would drink a frothy coffee and NOT moan if I had views like that.
